0G in 21GP? Hah. That's beyond terrible no matter how you slice it. Yes, Mike Richards brings a lot to the table, but this kind of production is inexcusable especially if you're one of the team leaders. And it's not like the Kings don't need his goals either.
I don't really have to get into this, do I? For the past three seasons the Kings were hyped up to be WCF locks, last season with the Richards trade and the BRichards pitch Kings fans were clamoring that the West was theirs. Buffalo fans were saying the same about the East.
Both of them failed in so many ways, it's almost cruel to laugh at it. It's 75% Lombardi's fault though the fans are just going by what, admittedly, looks fine on paper. But maybe Kopitar, Brown and Doughty were all really really overhyped?
Yeah this is sort of a stretch... I'm not a Kings fan at all, but I was very excited about their roster, and I had them pegged for a serious cup run. I think anyone looking objectively at that roster expects them to be performing much better than they are.
Only thing I'll agree on Is that I think Doughty is overhyped- he's not bad or anything, but he's not the second coming that many make him out to be

Correct. Other fans thought the Kings had a good team on paper as well.
Unfortuntaly some (and the person you quoted) cant put things into perspective and say the fanbase was so full of itself.
While 1 goal in 31 games is pretty terrible, luckily, Richards brings a lot more to the table than goal scoring.
unfortunately, if you're getting paid over $5m a season, simply playing good in the other aspects of the game besides goal scoring and point producing, doesnt cut it
if he was putting up these numbers in O&B this season, the fans would be all over him
What's disappointing to me, other than the obvious lack of scoring, is how he was said to be a great hitter. He's thrown one big check all season, and that was against the Flyers on the first game of the season after coming back from Europe. I can't remember any other hit even knocking an opposing player down. Hell I can't even remember any other hit, period!
He was unbelievable for a stretch before he got concussed though. He scored 11 goals in 13 games. Unfortunately that also means he scored 3 goals in the other 46 games! God I didn't even realize it was that bad before I looked it up.

Uh huh. So the Kings went from being 25th in the league to western conference final "locks" the next season? Kings were just happy to sneak in that year, it was their first year in the playoffs since the 01/02 season. The following year Kopitar got injured and couldn't play down the stretch or in the playoffs, I doubt anyone expected much other than a first round exit from the team by that point.
This is the first year there has been any kind of real expectations on the team and to state the obvious they've failed miserably, but to say they have been "locks" to compete for the conference title three years in a row is plain ignorant.
if it makes you guys feel any better, briere hasnt scored in 21 games as well. he just cant buy a goal, he had 3 to 4 good chances last night and hit a post lol
I'm just curious what Richards did in Philly to make him so loved before.... other than 'the shift'.
In LA, he stands up for team mates, seems like a good locker room guy and is excellent on the PK... but that's really about it.
I can see why people called him a warrior, but in addition to that I was expecting a player who would be able to create offense. So far I haven't seen much of that if at all.
Richards did everything for us, the year he got robbed for the selke ( IMO) Id favor him over Giroux right now, sure Giroux is much more talented offensively, but Richards did everything, so does Giroux to an extent, richie was just special. Sad to see he's not thriving in LA

Which is much more alarming, briere is a better offensive player and doesn't bring nearly as much in any other department of the game.
He's probably playing injured, he tends to do that. Linemates can't be a great excuse, because his linemates the last season or two in Philly haven't been spectacular. He played with Gagne and Giroux a bit, but Giroux was moved all over, and obviously Gagne was usually hurt, and not here last year, so he got stuck with Carcillo on his line for the majority of the past two seasons. I recall him having a lot of the AHL call-ups placed on his wing as well, and he got Versteeg after we acquired him too...and they didn't really click.
Perhaps he's grown complacent without the "C" on his chest, and the rabid fans and media not all over him. Be more rabid LA!
