The Rookie Parade..

Quote:
The Flyers rookies have accounted for 49 of the team's 216 goals (22.7%), which leads all other NHL teams. They also lead the NHL with most games played by rookies (346) by nearly 70 games, with the closest the Ottawa Senators at 277. The flyers season record for most games played is 480 set during the 1968-69 .

But seriously, that is a feat. We do have a damn good bunch of rookies playing.

This year's team underlines my astonishment, as a longtime Holmgren basher, that he re-established remarkable depth and an actual farm team from which NHL-ready players could be called up. I know the steep price for Schenn, Simmonds, Couturier and Voracek, but to have players like Wellwood, Read, Zolnierczyk, and Manning is incredible.

Needs Gus, Holmstrom, and Bourdon on that list.

Holmstrom, yes, thanks. I didn't include Gustafsson or Bourdon, entirely subjectively because they were kind of on the radar screen before this season. In retrospect, most had written off Bourdon as falling down the depth chart and all but past the chance to crack the line-up. All in all, he did pretty admirably as a long-term replacement, and can arguably be mentioned as a serious contender for a roster spot next season.
