I think it's a fair question to ask.

I would like to see the Blues, personally.

Blues probably. They are a tough team, but we match up well against them in a series. They are inexperienced in the postseason. Their defense is ridiculous, but ours is no slouch. We have the better goalie. We have the better offense.

If the other can be any team that is likely to make the play offs I think I would rather see a team from the Pacific.

I treated it as though there was no "other" option because A) I don't see CHI catching us, B) I don't see DET or STL falling beyond 5, and C) I don't see the Preds winning the division. Ergo, it's either STL or DET and it's a really tough question.

I think we have a slightly better chance of taking down the Blues, but the playoffs tend to buck expectations hence the excitement. On the other hand, while they're always tough outs, beating DET in the first round could be the impetus necessary to make a WCF / SCF type run. The issue is that, given deadline transactions and the Suter situation, losing in the first round this year would be worse than most years.

I voted Detroit because I can't think of a better way to demonstrate you are a legit Stanley Cup contender than beating perhaps the team most NHL players would least like to face in the first round. As I said in the CO thread, beating DET in the first round and losing in the next would be better to me than losing to them in the WCF.

That said, I flip flop on the issue daily and will likely be wishing to see STL jerseys on the ice instead of DET ones when the puck drops in game 1.

Assuming we are in the 4/5 I'd prefer the Blues. Obviously I'd rather go 13-2 and win the division and face phoenix but that's not likely.

Blues will be in the playoffs for the first time ever for many of their players, and that would be an advantage for us. Plus I just can't see Jason Arnott and Scot Nichol winning a playoff series when they couldn't do it with us when they were younger and better players

I want the Blues in round 1. Then Red Wings. If the Wings make it through the first series they will be beat up, tired, and age will show its ugly head. Wings big time players have been hurt on and off all year and i do not see them fairing to well after a tough series.

Anyone in the Pacific. Any team without a boss of a goalie. I'm not too interested in messing with Halak or Howard in the first round if we could play Dallas, Phoenix or San Jose instead. If we're not gonna get home ice advantage, I'd rather just drop to 6th and play the "winner" of the Pacific.

I don't care that we've done well against the Blues in the regular season. In the playoffs that means nothing.

The Central division teams are the best in the playoffs outside of maybe Vancouver. Why would we want to face each other in the first round? Nooo thanks.

Edit: One plus to the Blues would be a whole series' worth of Trotz and Hitch flirting with each other through the media. Their comments about each other are always priceless.

This poll should be rephrased as STL or DET. Look at the bookie odds; we're like 85% likely to play one of those two. Talking about anyone else is wishful thinking.

My hope is that we just take the 4 spot and snag that home advantage for the playoff yellow-out.

This is random, but....does anyone remember that thread on the NHL-wide HF boards about Suter, and there was some goober in there that guaranteed we wouldn't make the playoffs based on all kinds of elaborate statistics? Someone assured that they would resurrect the post when we made the playoffs...I'd really like to see it now, just so I can point and laugh.

Hehehe. Fair enough.

I've found it though. But for the superstitious here, I will not clip it into this thread until we've clinched.

(But come on y'all, let's be real...we're making the playoffs.)

St.Louis for me. They provide the best match-up. Would be a long hard series but would rather them than Detroit.

Let a lower seed see if they can knock them out.

PredsV82 brings up a strong point. Both teams (Blues, Wings) are pretty solid top to bottom. The one area they differentiate in, is post-season experience. Another reason why St.Louis is the better option out of the two.
