The sports club stat magic number thread.

With 15 games left, I thought it would be fun (torture) to track our magic number to the playoffs. It's easy in baseball but not so in hockey. With the use of sports club stat, I think we can get a good picture.

We have 75 points and 15 games left.

Clearly the trend has been down from 94 -95 needed to make the playoffs To where now they state 92 points gets u in with a 99.5% certainty...

That makes the magic number 17.

I'll adjust this if play so warrants keeping the magic number at sportsclubstats 99.5%.

Yes I understand the any statistical flaws here, and yes I get the true magic number would be the number right now if we obtain no other team coud POSSIBLY catch us.

That's not what this is about.

So ...17 points, 8-7-1 ...1.1 points per game... CATS DON'T LET US DOWN NOW!!

Winnipeg doesn't play again until Wednesday.

If we can beat the ****ing Hurricanes and Leafs (two non-playoff teams) at home...we'd be looking good by Wednesday.

This team will probably find a way to make sure we're biting our nails till the very end, though.

Yes we should.

But Carolina is a good team playing awesome.

Nevertheless we are the hungry team and have no excuses.

92 points still predicted to give us a 99% chance of getting in.

15 points in 14 games .

The magic point number stands at 15.

The pegs or buff would have to go 9-2-2

13 points will do this in 13 games.

The magic point number is 13 to get to 92, a 98% chance..

Buff continuous winning tho could make it a 93 point requirement ...

We are tonight a 90% chance of going to the promised land...

Im more worried about Buffalo and Winnipeg than I am Washington. I want to division because it makes ending the drought that much more special but all that matters is making the playoffs. I think we're a little to early to be doing magic numbers man. Your going to give fellow Panther fans anxiety attacks the entire stretch to the last game.

Obviously getting to the playoffs no matter how is the goal. But I'm definitely shooting for the division. We've been in 1st all this time, it would sting to lose it.

You crumbled on the gdt

But yes if we win sat, that puts us somewhere over 98% so I get ur point about beating buff.

6 wins gives us an x next to our names.

6 wins gives us a 65% chance of winning div.

8-4 gives us a fighting chance to takeover Boston.

Beat Buffalo 3-2 (so), playoff odds up 2.5 to 96.5%
83 points 35 23-13

5 wins gives us a 99% chance to make the playoffs, and a 75 % chance of being in 3rd.

AG what is your comfort zone? Mine is 92. Do you want 93-94?

I think he's been basing his magic number on getting 94 points.

Personally I don't want to see anymore OTLs; I want 12 more points. 95 here we come!

Every season I start with 94, historically a number that gets you in 99.999999% of the time.

As a season winds down, you can tweek it. A few weeks ago, i adjusted it to 93, which is why i have my percieved magic number to 5 more wins, where the reality is that would make it almost impossible for pegs or buff to catch us. They would have to go 8-1-1.

92 pts gives you 99% chance of playoffs and 75% of winning SE

93pts gives you 100%% chance of playoffs and 85% of winning SE

Numbers according to sportsclubstat.

If we go just 4-5-1 Caps have to go 7-2.

Good thing hockey ain't baseball. For one no triple headers...less chance for end of season complete f-up slump.

Lol...

Hey I think 6 wins is a mathematical clinch as 96 is all buff can get to if we win out.

Who has more ROW's??

But I still will bet 4 more wins does it.

I think 5-5-0 will get the division title at 95 pts almost guaranteed. Wash have 9 gms, I don't see them getting more than 15 out of 18 possible. In fact 4-6-0 might do it.

Having said that, no point thinking that way. They're on a roll, awesome time to peak and go into playoffs with home ice and major momentum. Shoot for 100pts.

Every bad karma gets broken some time. Indians have forgiven by now. Their ancestors like good hockey.
