I'm going with my original prediction and say he'll be back in 1.5 weeks, aka the playoffs. He's a tough ole farm boy. It'll take more than a knee slam to put this warrior out of commission

All good news tho

Glad he's on skates but he's not coming back until next season.

Your just kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

This. Remember Savard.

That said, don't want to be a buzzkill -- excellent news that he's skating, and I hope he continues to!

Good to hear, but ya i don't think we'll see him until September, which would be the right choice

I think we'd have to win a couple series for him to be able to come back, at which point if he gets clearance, it'll be his choice, which means he'll play.

I agree with everyone else when it comes to Horty. Shut him down and make sure he is ready for next season. Somebody else will just have to step up and become a playoff hero.

I was thinking more about this on the way in to work this morning, and while I still think it's likely only an MCL sprain/tear (I don't think the ACL is likely involved), I think you are probably correct in that he is done for the year.

The rest and heal period for a serious sprain/tear without surgery is like 6-8 weeks. Even if they make it to the finals I don't think he's back by then, or maybe just back

i am in the minority here.
if he is going 40 min, they are trying to get him back for the PO's.
they wouldnt do it otherwise. unless he just wanted to get the skates wet.

he could go hard on the ice for a good week here with no symptoms and be back soon.

this is no savard. savard was a wreck and looked awful before he came back. horton looks healthy and ready to roll. he's been in the pressbox for a while. savard wouldnt even make it to the pressbox.

LOL at non doctors proclaiming from their chairs to shut Horton down. Giroux had a concussion this year. How is he? If Horton is better, he is better. All your typing wont change that.

Sorry, but coming back in the regular season with time to find your game and coming back for the playoffs are different beasts. Never mind their individual situations.

Awful comparison.

Guys you think Nathan Horton can't find his game on the 4th line in about 3 games? Honestly the garbage in here. Let the doctors and management worry about the decisions they actually have first hand knowledge of. The guy has played hockey his whole life. If he is healthy, nothing is keeping him from the ice. And that next concussion is always looming for Horton. He knows it, he has had months to think about it. He's an adult....

That is really good news

I doubt he will be back this season (even playoffs) but you never know. I like that Nate feels well enough to lace them up.

The fact that you think Horton would return and skate on the 4th line tells me all I need to know about your level of comprehension and insight on this matter.

Good point. By the same logic, I'd make the same point about using Savard as some kind of gold-standard/benchmark for all things concussion. Or using Bergeron. Or anybody, for that matter. More awful comparisons, IMO. There is a medical protocol that needs to be followed, followed by a hockey protocol (is he back to game shape, etc). There is no doubt that the Bruins will follow both. The fact that this protocol failed Marc Savard has negligible influence on how that protocol will serve another player. If/when there are enough Savards, then the protocol(s) will change. Until then, second-guessing the protocols based on the experience of ONE Boston Bruin is baseless.

If we see Horton again this year, it will be because he's been medically cleared by all of the proper channels, and then 'hockey cleared' by another set of channels. If we don't see him until next year sometime, it's because he failed to clear one or both of those channels now. Period. And I for one will not worry any more or less about his condition whether he comes back in May, June, October or January.

Agreed. Concussions are such an individual matter that comparing recovories between player x and player y is pointless.

I'm going to worry about him the same way I worry about Bergeron every time he takes a big hit. Once you've started down that road, it always has to be in the bakc of your mind.

Didn't Backstrom come back relatively quick after he started skating? The docs obviously won't clear him unless they are convinced he's ready.
