Hank's yearly "down period?"

As we all know, Hank usually has a slumb in january (or start in jan) and maybe also the defense has had the same.

This year Biron has taken more games and Hanks work load in the games has been lesser due to the Team being a lot better this year.

I was thinking that maybe his down period being kind of pushed forward and march fits in the time schedule quite well regarding the number of games played as well as his physical and mental status.

So, the bottom line is that his january is instead starting in march this year.

Honestly I hope that is how it is, because that would mean that his usual down the stretch ridiculous top performances would kick in during play off time this year.

Its like when Mo Rivera has his annual late summer swoon...where we struggles for a few weeks, blows like 2-3 saves and generally looks hittable. Then he finds his game again.

There's no question about it. He's definitely in a slump right now.

He's leaving a lot of pucks in the slot, which is uncharacteristic of him. Clearly hit a rut in his game, but he'll snap out of it.

Let's see, the defense is banged up and the team is having trouble scoring goals--and people are suggesting that Lundqvist is having a slump? Not really--it's much more likely to be a result of the team coming back to earth.

We haven't had as much of a goal-scoring problem as people are making it seem. Lundqvist is definitely in a slump, and it's pretty difficult to defend him. Look as his SV% from the past few games. It isn't pretty.

GA is up more than GF is down during the past 10 games (compared to the 10 before).

I don't agree--I really think it's the team in front of him that's slumping--mostly because of injuries to key players (Callahan and Del Zotto), plus several more (including Girardi) banged up, but still playing.

He doesn't look comfortable in net at the moment. Lots of awkward movements, and bad rebound control. He will be fine tho, he slumps a little every year (much like every other player). I'm sure he'll be on top of his game again come play offs.

Here we go again... Chicken vs. Egg discussion. Show me one team playing super in front of so-so goalie before saying "I disagree". 3 goals on 12 shots. Fish had around 20 SOG a game - team in front plays well. Done. Sure he is slumping. It is no bad time for it. Get back to what you were comes PO time, Hank!

i think it's about that time of the year where he's almost too rested. it's definitely a good thing that he isn't tired, but i would like torts to starting riding him a bit more going into the playoffs so he can get into a rhythm.

I'd say he is in a slump. He isn't a disaster, but he doesn't seem as confident/comfortable as he always is. NO big deal, he will get into the groove soon enough.

Just look at some of the goals, he's let in recently. He's def slumping, still better than 90% of the starters out there, but def slumping. That said, if the theory is sound that this is Henke's normal January slump, that means his normal AMAZING February and March are coming right in time for the playoffs!! That could be ridiculous.

hes playing better than Biron...but hes nowhere near where he was a few months ago. clearly his play has dropped off, but hes still playing at least as good as most anyone else. he's just not playing miles ahead of everyone like he was.

Definitely isn't as lights-out as he was earlier. He'll get through it. As long as he's back in top form when we need him in the playoffs, I don't care.

This isn't the first slump in Hank's career. He'll get over it. Maybe that nice assist yesterday helps him get back on track?

He's not in a slump. The defense is worn down and making mistakes that just didn't happen earlier in the season. Specifically, the Girardi/McDonagh line.

When the team plays bad Lundqvist looks bad.

i disagree....henrik has shown the ability to single handedly win games. right now hes playing like most other good goalies are playing. hes not showing that ability to flat out steal you a game. thats ok, i have zero doubts whatsoever he will be back with a vengeance as soon as the playoffs start if not sooner.

The defense IS worn down but that doesn't mean Hank hasn't let up some softies the past few starts.

debatable. the andy mac breakaway was definitely stoppable. not an easy shot by any means, but stoppable for sure.

game winner in chitown...yikes

a couple of the goals against the debbies

and i agree about the macdonald breakaway goal also.

not saying he's been bad, he just hasn't been absolutely lights out lately. and based upon his career trends I think its good that this is happening now, because he has shown the ability the recover from these minor slumps.
