Saw this earlier...now that the MLB Marlins are the Miami Marlins and not the Florida Marlins, will we see the NHL Panthers become the Miami Panthers. I know that the Marlins name change had to do with the new stadium, and I know that the Panthers don't technically play within Miami. But there are lots of teams whose arena has been outside the metro city. And there is another NHL team in the state of course, has been for a long time.
Panthers fans or others, have you heard anything to this effect?

No, not gonna happen. We play in Sunrise, which is basically West Ft. Lauderdale. Miami is 45 minutes away, pretty much same distance as West Palm. And the name is for the actual Florida panther, as well.

Thanks. I tend to think of all of suburban SE Florida as metro Miami, but I'm sure its not the way residents see it. Forgot there was an actual Florida Panther as well.

No, growing up in Palm Beach county and spending every other weekend in Hialeah (north Miami), I really didn't want to have much to do with the Miami tag. I mean, I claim all the teams cause they're close, and Miami has nice areas, but really we're just included in the South Florida tag. I grew up in Boca Raton, an hour from Miami, so not a part.
Our arena literally hugs the Everglades, the Heat's arena is a lot closer to the beach, the Phins are northwest Miami, and the Marlins are playing in the old Orange Bowl. Knocked it down and built the new park.
Giants and Jets play in Jersey, though, but I'd be surprised if it was changed. Biggest purpose for the name was the endangered animal.
Btw, original Panther stadium was the Heat's Miami Arena. Then we got our own.
