Guys I think it’s important to remember we will always be able to spend enough money to win a championship.
everyone needs to do themselves a favor take a look at this link for capgeek.com

with this CBA and the next (I assume) it’s not how much you spend it’s how you spend it. With the Salary cap and floor currently the range is close enough that you are forced to spend enough to win so it’s how you manage it.
Case in point this year Columbus and Edmonton (last two teams in the league) are spending more than the Detroit Red Wings.........how mind numbing is that???
You too can be in a complete rebuilding phase like Edmonton and still spend a wad of cash you just need to go out and sign Ryan Smith to a $6.25 million dollar contract, Maybe throw in Shawn Horcroff for $5.5 million a year (locked in for another 3 years

) and how about Hemsky next year for $5.0 million. For the record I love Smith and Horcroff is a character guy but those contract's have old school New York Rangers written all over them. Amazing how Kevin Lowe continues to be employed??
In Columbus if you take Nash at $7.8 million a year then throw in Wisniewski at $5.5 million for the next 5 years you have some big pieces to work around. If you look at their roster, pay scale, and results it leaves one scratching their head a bit.
So if you are worried about whether Winnipeg will spend enough to win the answer is yes because they are on record saying they want to be a mid cap team.........However that isn’t my primary concern its whether we use our money wisely because if you look at Capgeek there doesn't seem to be much of a correlation between how much or how little you spend when it comes to impacting results IMHO. Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres, LA kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Montreal Canadians are six of the top 11 payrolls and there is a chance none of them will make the playoffs this year. Flip the scale and the bottom 10 are Isles, Avalanche, Stars, Hurricanes, Preds, Sens, Jets, Blues, Yotes, and Panthers. There is a very good chance 6 of those teams and maybe even 7 make the playoffs.
