With the cap projected to go up to 69-70M, teams will pay a little more. I don't want Parenteau for 5M, but I could see some team dishing that kind of money out.

That's basically what I said. He would like get more, but I don't want it coming out of the Sens payroll. The money ($5 M++) should be spent looking for an Alfie replacement, although that's easier said than done. How the team does in the playoffs will go a long way towards determining what tier (high-end vs. mid-tier UFAs) Ottawa is able to attract.

Yet it's also been said teams are wary of the fact that the cap could decrease as of Sept. 15th or whatever the date the CBA expires is.

Just to clarify my op. I'm expecting this next year; therefore, aidos to Regin, K-Dawg, Winny, Butler, etc.

Michalek - Spezza - Zibanejad
Silfverberg - Turris - Alfie
Greening - Smith - Condra
Foligno - JOB - Neil
Filatov

Suter - Karlsson
Cowen - Gonchar
Phillips - Gilroy

Anderson
Bishop

Suter's negotiating rights will be acquired at the draft for Butler, either Prince or Pageau and some picks.

Note: Highly contingent on Zibby and Silfverberg jumping right in, so to speak.

And then in 2013-14, you've got:

Michalek - Spezza - Zibby
Filatov - Turris - Silfverberg
Puempel - Da Costa - Noesen
Foligno - Smith - Neil
Greening

Suter - Karlsson
Cowen - Patty W
Phillips - Borocop

Anderson
Bishop

Gilroy - re-sign (one way 2 yrs @ $1.5 mil) Not sure why unless he lights it up.He is an offensive guy, struggled with defence in the NHL
Carkner - re-sign (one way 1 yr $.750K) No chance..not if they are actually rebuilding..days of the designated enforcer is done.

RFAs
Foligno - re-sign (one way 3 yrs @ $3.5 mil) He has paid his dues and done OK
Karlsson - re-sign (one way 5 yrs @ $6 mil) To much compensation for others to pick him up.
O'Brien - re-sign (one way 2 yrs @ $.850K) Looks for other offers
Klinkhammer - re-sign (one way 2 yrs @ $.750K) Has had a good year in bingo. May have better offers elsewhere.
Da Costa - re-sign (two way @ $.850) May look at other offers, Montreal would be a good fit.
Regin - re-sign (one way 1 yr @ $1 mil)
Gryba - re-sign (two way 2 yrs @ ($.750 mil) Looks at other offer(s) not matched by Ottawa(Montreal Colorado Columbus)
Cannone - unsure
Daugavins - release .......... replaced by Klinkhammer
Filatov - release ............... replaced by Silfverberg
Schira - release ................ replaced by Wideman MAy need to keep him

Prospects that are turning pro:
Silfverberg - Ottawa
Zibanejad - Ottawa
Stone - Bingo
Prince - Bingo
Pageau - Bingo
Kramer - Bingo
Culek - Bingo
Blood - Bingo
Wideman - Bingo
Could be a few changes.

RFAs can't "look for other offers" unless we don't qualify them/they're offersheeted.

The only UFAs I see us re-signing are Kuba and Gilroy. Bye-bye Winch, Konopka, Carkner. I see us trying to keep all our RFAs, except maybe for Daug. The only rookies I see making the jump right away are Silf and BoroCop.

FA-Spezza-Michalek
Silfverberg-Turris-Alfie
Foligno-Regin-Neil
Greening-Smith-Condra
Klink, JOB, Butler providing depth.

Kuba/FA-Karlsson
Cowen-Gonchar
Phillips-FA/Gilroy
BoroCop

Anderson
Bishop

as for Bingo, I see Ziba going there. I've given up hope that Filatov will ever come back.

There have been only 6 offer sheets signed since the lockout and this guy thinks Eric ****in Gryba is going to get one? Ridiculous.

Jared Cowen ($1.265m) / Matt Gilroy ($1.500m)

GOALTENDERS
Craig Anderson ($3.187m) / Ben Bishop ($0.650m)

CAP SPACE (24-man roster): $12,579,167

If Regins rehabbed his shoulder he should be brought back. Regin-Foligno-Neil was an awesome line in the few games he played this year. Hopefully they can bring a top-6 LW if Zibby needs more time to develop or Greening can move up and JOB/Daugavins plays on the 4th line. They definitely have the cap space to go after a big piece in the UFA market

As I said before, we will make a big free agent signing or trade. Suter/Parise/Ryan

Also, if not those guys(Detroit snatches one and some **** changes along the way), I'm pretty confident we will get someone like Chris Stewart or Parenteau instead.

Those guys are NOTHING to sneeze at as well.

My main point is we will get top line talent and yes, I do believe Parenteau is top line talent. Would be amazing on our top line and on our powerplay with Karlsson and Spezza.

Parise would be better but whatever.

They can't let Kuba walk. That would create a massive hole on the blue line that would take a few years to fill. Get him signed to a 2 year deal. Suter is going to sign in Detroit or Philadelphia so don't bother wasting mental energy on him.

If we do sign Kuba, I expect to sign another top 4 D-man as well. Imagine Kuba plays average again, our defense will stay the same or worse which we can't risk having next year.

Kuba-Karlsson
Mitchell-Cowen
Gonchar-Phillips
Boroweicki

Killer D.

That would be a good way to go about it, if there's a guy they want on the FA market. Maybe a Garrison, Rozsival, Carle, Brad Stuart type of 2 way guy that could be useful in a top 4 role. Phillips and Gonchar would be expensive bottom pairing guys but really that's a luxury we could afford. Carle would really fit well in this system.

The other option would be to trade for a young D man who we like. The assets will be there and we need another long term piece on D imo. Like Schenn or Franson.

Kuba shouldn't leave.

If Rundblad was still in Ottawa, then by all means I would be fine with him moving on, but we can't guarantee any UFA signings and Kuba will be gone by July 1st otherwise.

Murray: "Hey Kuba, you had an awesome season this year!"
Kuba: "Thanks, are you going to offer me to come back again? I love the young core we're building here, and I'd love to play a part".
Murray: "That's awesome! Tell you what. I'm not going to offer you anything now, but here's what you should do. Just wait. We're going to go after 2 or 3 better defenceman than you that we'd rather have on our team. Even if you get better offers on July 1st, just decline them and wait to see if we may possibly want to sign you, if the correct possible circumstances occur, which may or may not happen.
Kuba: "Gorsh, sounds like a plan".

That's not how it works.

The one guy I really DON'T want signed is Kuba. I admit he is playing OK this year, but he always does this when he has a contract year. He is going to want a multi-year contract and I will be really pissed if Murray falls for that. I could live with a one-year deal, but Kuba is not going to go for that, and I expect some other team will be suckered in to giving him a contract for 3 or 4 years. I just don't want us to be the team to make that mistake.

I believe the only reason Stuart is considering leaving the Wings is because his family is on the West Coast and he'd prefer to be closer to them. So I would doubt he comes to Ottawa.

The thing you gotta ask with Kuba is why is he playing well this year.
The first year he played in Ottawa he was pretty good on a team that under achieved and did not make the playoffs. This was also a contact year for him
The next year he played well/ok/not bad on a playoff team that went no where.
Last year he was awful on a team that was not very good.
This year he has played pretty well.

If you look at the teams he has played for there have been four different coaches in the four years he has played in Ottawa. Three of them did not do a great job. Did that affect his play?

On the team that over achieved due to Elliot's hot streak were his deficiencies hidden?

Was last year a result of his being hurt and never getting back on track?

Is this year's good play a result of stable coaching, world class defensive partner, and a contract year?

I would not resign Kuba. With Phillips and Gonchar being the older guard, Cowen playing so well, other younger players knocking on the door, and the possibility of re-signing Gilroy I think he could be let go.

I could definetely see Murray making a move with one of these contracts at the draft, whether its to get another pic, move up, or trade for another expiring contract (maybe RFA dman).

My picks:

Foligno - re-signed 2-3 year deal
Regin - Trade bait or resigned for 1 year for future trade bait
O'Brien - 1 year, 1 way deal
Winchester - re-signed, 2 year deal
Konopka - Most likely gone
Daugavins - Offered a two-way deal, rejects it to play in Europe
Klinkhammer - 2 year two way deal
Kuba - Hopefully gone, but I could see him coming back
Gilroy - Hopefully gone but I think he's re-signed
Carkner - Gone
Auld - Gone before this season is out

Bingo:

Filatov - Retain his rights, give him a try-out in training camp, eventually goes back to Russia till next year
Da Costa - Possible trade bait or Re-signed
Parrish - Re-signed for 1 year
Gryba - Possible trade bait or Re-signed, don't think Murray has alot of faith in him
Conboy - Gone depending on d depth coming in
Locke - Gone
Lessard - Gone, Kramer takes over
McKenna - Most likely resigned if he wants to stay

I also think we'll go after a few UFA's like Parise, Suter, Parenteau etc and I think if the Sens want him back, Chris Kelly will be more than willing to come back.

I'm not an advocate to resign Kuba. But the biggest reason he didn't play well last year was due to his broken leg in training camp. Any player who misses all of training camp, whether it be due to injury or holdout ie: doughty, usually has a bad season. The league is just to competitive and talented for a player to miss extended time and then try to just jump back in as if nothing happened. Unless your name is Crosby then it's really difficult. On top of that fact he broke a leg, this wasn't an upper body injury, he couldn't even train or stay in shape. That being said, I could go either way with Kuba, but the way he has played this season is a better indication of who he will be in the future, lets not compare him to an injury plagued season from a year ago.

Kuba's been a very good D man for over a decade in the NHL. One bad season and people still question whether he is a capable top 4 dman despite being fantastic all year this season. Amazing really.

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,720,833; BONUSES: $425,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,579,167

There's a line up
Say what now? Parise for ONLY $7 mil? Suter for ONLY $6.5? If there is ANY WAY WHATSOEVER on heaven or earth that those two sign such heavily discounted deals, sign me up too... but it ain't going to happen.

A bad 2nd liner in Tuomo Ruutu gets $4.75, Grabovski takes a "discount" at $5 mil/year to stay in Toronto, and Parise isn't worth INFINITELY more than that?

In LAST year's UFA season: Jovanovski gets over $4mil/year, Wizniewski gets $5.5, but somehow Suter, with a higher cap, will only get $6.5?

Guys... Parise and Suter are going to get PAID. Think of a number that you absolutely, under any circumstances, would NEVER sign a player to, then add a million to THAT. Suter gets $7.5-8 mil. Parise gets over $8. Possibly $9.

Free agency is basically designed to overpay whichever few elite talents are available on a year-to-year basis, and gentlemen, this year is no different, especially with big market teams having both the need for such players AND the available capspace. Parise & Suter get record deals.
