We've won 32 games this year without Wayne Gretzky. Take that however you like.

I think beating Boston 6-0 eliminates sample size. But yeah, maybe its just a fluke, maybe Vanek should rest a little more.

To state what should be the obvious

We are better with Vanek in the lineup than without.

I think the point of this thread is to show that they're a better team without Vanek and Roy, but with Ellis in the line up.

or something

So when Vanek was injured vs Boston in the playoffs and the team collapsed after that, that should eliminate sample size too?

k, I'm done here.

Vanek needs less time in front of the net on the PP. All that punishment takes a toll, particularly later in the season. It's difficult to move well if you're covered with bruises.

While its true he takes a beating there. His current injury issues involved getting nailed by dmen away from the net (all 5 on 5 situations iirc)not from being in front of the net. Unfortunately his lack of speed reduces his chances of avoiding these hits.

2nd on the team in goals having a "sub par" year. I'll keep him.

I agree completely, RUff needs to do more to get him scoring.

But, I think Ruff has an issue, Leino and Gerbe IMO should be offensive leftwings, not checking line wing/center, and we are better when they are at leftwing with other scorers. Maybe Ruff should just go with 3 scoring lines, probably the only way to keep Vanek away from Roy.

I don't think we can discount that the beating he takes in front of the net makes him more susceptible to hits away from the net. He had some jump in his skating earlier in the season and seemed more mentally alert. He's been dragging himself around like a zombie the last several weeks.
