Agreed with whoever said the pass Richie made to Gabby was underrated. He forced Nielsen out of position, which opened up a shooting lane for Gabby. If Richie plays like this continuously, the NHL better watch out.

Despite giving up 3 goals AGAIN I didn't think the D nor Lundqvist played that poorly. 2 bad bounces, especially the second goal. The first goal was bad defense and Lundqvist gave up a bad rebound, but Girardi was there for the rebound but he batted off Tavares's skate. The D made a few mistakes, most notably the breakaway, but still they kept the Islanders to 19 shots and very few opportunities (though I missed most of the 3rd). I feel like the entire season we were coming out on the positive end of the bounces and lately it's as if it has regressed back to the mean. Nice to win despite the awful bounces. From what I saw (missed most the 3rd as I said) we dominated this game.

I know for a fact we shut out the Fishies at home around Christmas time this year...so yes, but rarely.

I don't want read to through this entire thread or the GDT. Was it explained why there was a 4 minute minor to Stepan? That looked like a ******** call.

Lundqvist looks like he's in a little bit of a funk. I think I saw him make one big save tonight... and that was in OT. Even a month ago, there's just no way he allows the breakaway goal.

That being said... feels good to get a win and get the homestand off on the right foot. Gain some confidence. Hopefully put together two in a row and feel refreshed going into Thursday.

Drawing blood on a high stick is automatically a double minor.

Lundqvist was on a crazy roll for so long he was due for a bad stretch.

Trautwig is magic. They have to bring the entire team in to be interviewed by him during an intermission.

Zucc is on hold for a goal now.

Was at the game, so didn't get to see it clearly. If that's the case though, that's complete ********.

Also, Nabakov should have gotten a match penalty.

The referee can deem whether or not a high sticking penalty warrants 2 or 4 minutes, depending on how injured the player is.

Rule 60.3:

Quote:
60.3 Double-minor Penalty - When a player carries or holds any part of his stick above the shoulders of the opponent so that injury results, the Referee shall assess a double-minor penalty for all contact that causes an injury, whether accidental or careless, in the opinion of the Referee.

So it didn't matter that he didn't draw blood? So just because it was violent? Other than the once in a blue moon boardings or kneeings that go down as majors, when do you see more than a minor on a more than usual violent play? It's also always a major, never a double minor.

Yes. Independently of how well Richards played, MZA did extremely well on the powerplay. Including separating defenders from the puck, which I did not expect.

Home from the game. Place went nuts after Gabby scored, felt like a playoff game with the reaction from the fans. Could tell this game meant a ton.

Two points well earned, felt this was the best game they've played in a while with the amount of time they spend on the Isles side of the ice. Would like to see this same effort on Tuesday against Carolina.

Where's the option for Hagelin?

He was great all game. I hadn't seen someone so determined to win board battles in a while. Guy busted his ass out there the whole game and should have had at least one goal to show for it. Richards played great finally.... but Hagelin was the most impressive player to me hands down.

I was at the game so I'm confused as to why Trautwig is in the poll. What did he do?

Enjoyed the game on DVR - only frustrating thing was, and nobody on these boards has noted, the Rangers really dominated the majority of the game. Islanders had a few chances, but their goals were flukes. This should have been a laugher. Rangers still work too hard to score, they overpass constantly (yes, you, Johnny Malkin), could easily have scored 6 or 7 tonight. At least they were generating chances, would like to see some buried.

I thought Dubinsky and Hagelin were incredibly strong on the puck, wish they had a scoring touch.

I voted BR, Gaborik, McD.

Staal stilll looks like a shadow of last year - slow, can't handle the puck. Don't expect much this year. Bickel, though, has looked much better. Eminger needs to sit when MDZ returns.

Overall, with no Cally or MDZ, an encouraging game.
