Cap suppose to be looking at around 69mill - 72mill

Just mentioned on CBC hotstove.

If it goes up to 69 or 72mill, Montreal will have no problem re-signing Price, Subban, and Eller.

It could also be a big offseason adjustment allowing us to look at more options this offseason. Especially if in the new CBA we get the one player buy out to not could against the cap.(Gomez)

A lot of cap space for everyone, and cap floor is going to be high... Islanders are going tool want Gomezzzzzzz

I think the cap willl go down in a roll back by end of summer, like after the last lock out, so cap might go down to 60 but a guy like Cole will have a cap hit of 3.75 or something.

The higher it is the better. I couldn't care less about broke teams with broke owners, the NHL should do a better job getting prospective millionaires or corporations to buy into one of the best, lest corrupt sports leagues in the world.

The Habs are obligated to spend to the cap, I think the crowd's going to really turn on Molson if he doesn't get rid of Gomez this summer.

Get rid of Gomez, sign Suter.

Parise wont sign here and I'm too scared to give Semin a long term contract. He is exactly what our top 6 needs though.

Aside from Suter and Parise, there is nothing in this years UFA pool.

Might just mean there are more takers for Gomez.

Gomez may actually have some more value then if the floor rises considerably with his savings of almost 5mil over 2 years. I still wouldn't hold my breath for anything useful but a team like NYI or Ana may want to take a gamble that be gets back to 50ish points while getting them to the floor.

Cap goes up before the new CBA, which means it can go up and then WAY down this summer.

The Habs top 6 needs a temperamental over payed player?

As for the OP yes they said that but they also then said any new challenge might bring that back down. Hard to say at this point what the new cap will be.

Gomez's cap is getting closer to only 10% of the salary cap. WTF is that? We're going to see more and more average players with a salary of more than 5 millions.

Nah, only that PPG forward named Ray Whitney.

Seriously the most under rated player in the league.

Not to mention Dennis Wideman - one of the offensive defenseman in the league.

Also;

Koivu
Oduya
Gaustad
Jokinen
Kostitsyn
Huet
Huselius
Stuart
Parenteau
Stempniak
Doan
Colaiacovo
Jackman
Kubina

All of those players could probably help out Montreal (maybe not Koivu, but I'd still take him back). There are a few more guys like Boyes & Stoll that might be interesting to take a flyer on with a cheap contract.

it's been said... but yeah, if the cap goes up that much (and the cap floor), moving Gomez should theoretically get a whole lot easier.

NYI, PHX, Carolina... all teams that work from limited budgets, need C depth, and will need to add some serious salary to reach the cap floor.

Move Gomez & Kaberle, offer Parise/Suter 8M$ each...

FORWARDS
Zach Parise ($8.000m) / Tomas Plekanec ($5.000m) / Rene Bourque ($3.333m)

I'm really starting to believe that we can trade Gomez this off-season. His salary doesn't look too bad when you consider Hemsky is getting $10m over the next 2 years and he's having a Gomez-like season this year. Gomez' contract is also $10m over the next 2 years.

There are also no 2nd line centres on the market. Add-in his high cap hit and there may be more teams than NYI looking to trade for him.

Switch up Moen with Leblanc, Put Louie at the "C". He looks way better. Price is signed a bit too high. I'd say more 5.75-5.5M caphit. Subban will be more around 4.25 too. Something similar to AK.

I dont think we can get Sutter & Parise. One or the other, and I'd pick Parise in a heartbeat.

Asides that

If the cap goes up this much, there will be lots of stupid money thrown at guys who don't deserve it. Habs need to avoid repeating the mistake Gainey made the last time we had this much cap room available. Unless it is for bonafide top players in their prime, like Suter or Parise, stay away from the market this year, even if there is 10M or more unused space. I prefer signing our own guys that have earned it, letting the youngsters play to see what we actually have in them before sending them away for nothing, and leaving the door open to acquire salary from teams that get into trouble while forcing them to include high draft picks or top prospects for helping them out of their mess. With the contract length most UFA's are getting, teams will load up this year, and then have their hands tied for the future crop of UFA's, that is when the time wil be right to spend to the cap, when available money and demand are low.

Who cares. If cap goes down 20%, all signed contracts will be reduced by 20%. No impact on spending power.
