putting the red line back in would almost be enough to make me stop watching hockey.... the game is SO MUCH BETTER with it removed, they would have to be complete idiots to put it back in.... but this *is* the NHL afterall, nothing would surprise me
They should not increase safety by unilaterally making the game a snooze-fest. These athletes are getting paid millions of dollars because the game is exciting, not so they're
"safe"
I live in a place where hockey isn't big, but when my friends do watch a game, they don't look for the intricacies of good board work etc. They look for exciting scoring chances where you see high talent players do seemingly magic things. I know this isn't the main market for hockey, but if they want to expand viewership, they cant go back to dead-puck. That was some of the most boring **** ever. "Oh look, Dallas beat Detroit 2-1 in a thrilling game of 20 shots apiece"
Not sure what a concussion helmet for hockey would look like (though google says the Messier project has designed something like that).
The NFL doesn't look different than the normal ones, and the MLB one has been re-sized to be more effective and a much better design.
Looking at the hockey ones under the Messier project, it looks like a normal helmet but has more impact absorbing technology in the helmet.
A few players who had concussion issues are wearing the M11 (Messier project), such as PM Bouchard, as well as a few other players, Nick Schultz here and Chris Phillips. They look goofy but from what I read they are some of the best out there for protecting your melon.
Yeah Fedun injuries will only be addressed if they address icing.
For the trapezoid I should be clear. They either need to keep the trapezoid but put the whistles away like they have recently. Or else take away the trapezoid and call 12 penalties a game.
I didn't find the goalies coming out and paying the puck to be much of an issue except for what Joe addressed when they would get leveled 30 feet outside of their net and they still drew a penalty.
you dont remember brodeur and turco playing every puck that went into the corners before the other team even got to the circles? i hated that style and still think the trapazoid is a good rule, not having no touch icings are the problem.
also they need to leave the redline out, the game is way better for everyone

No I do remember that, was annoying but he did that against all teams and good teams find a way to counter that. I also remember those teams not winning the cup every year too.

I actually hope they get rid of the trapezoid. If the offensive team doesn't want the goalie to play the puck then perhaps they need to be skillfull in coming up with a system to carry the puck in instead of dump and chase, which is boring as old hell. As well, it will protect some of the defencemen from getting levelled by 'late' hits from forecheckers whose only job is to hurt players and ignore the puck.
They need to keep the red line out of the game and allow the stretch pass. Opens up the neutral zone and makes the game more exciting.

yeah carrying it in is ideal, except when teh other team starts playing a 1-4 trap and you have to dump the puck in, then the goalie plays it and it happens over and over and over, you just have to hope one time the other team takes a penalty so you can get into their zone.

Except it doesn't work like that.
What really happens is teams become more confident about stationing all 5 players in the neutral zone to break down the passes and skating space, thus forcing a dump-in. Which of course they don't need to have a defenseman back for because a goaltender will be there ready to break up any forcheckers as an immune 6th man in the neutral trap.
Add in a removed redline to that recipe for disaster? Right back to the dark ages.
It also seems like on-ice reviews may be on the docket so refs have the ability to review and overturn botched calls without picking up the phone.
Quote:
To answer the second part of your question David, video review is not allowed as per rule 69.1; "The rule will be enforced exclusively in accordance with the on-ice judgment of the Referee(s), and not by means of video replay or review."
I have said consistently that the referee needs the ability to personally review this play from a monitor in the arena where contact with the goalkeeper has been suspected and results in the scoring of a goal. Until that power is granted to the referee(s) on the ice, difficult calls such as this will occasionally be ruled upon incorrectly. Give the referees the same advantage we have. That is to make this most difficult call correctly.
My hope is that authority comes from the general managers meetings starting today and is instituted in time for the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Same GMs' breakout group that likes hybrid icing dislikes legal hand passes in def zone. Will ask large group to consider no hand passes.
yeah, i've never understood why hand passes were okay in the defensive zone, but not in the offensive... it should either be allowed or dissallowed in both (i would vote for disallowing myself)
