Sorry to hear that! I miss my kitty (of 13 years).

A whole lot of moving pieces right now, but it's exciting.
That definitely makes sense. Good luck!

I'll talk to her and let you know.

p.s. Congrats on looking at a new house! Exciting. If you have one you are scouting, I'd love to see pictures

I don't understand why there are so many people arguing today why their ethnic holiday that isn't celebrated in the native country is better than someone else's ethnic holiday that isn't celebrated in the native country.

Just go have fun with people! Who cares what country they came from 5 generations ago.

I asked a few guys at work, and they referred me to a progressive-ish realty company that only takes half the commission on a buy and gives you the other half under the rationale that most shoppers are doing a lot of the work themselves online. A few glowing reviews, so we're probably going that route. Thanks, though!

We'll definitely post some pics if we put an offer in that gets accepted... until then, can't get too set on it. Heh.

Just had a query that took three hours to run freeze up when copying the resultset. Program not responding.

Piece of crap.

Spent the weekend in Boston for PAX East. Only second day back and I want to go back.

I really love that town. Except for those pesky Pats and Bruins.

The drivers are pretty bad, too.

It's the only place I've been where someone was triple parked on a one way street and then threw it into reverse and came charging towards oncoming traffic.

It's also the only place I've been where a light turning green means wait for 3 people to run the red light before entering the intersection.

Notice I didn't mention the Red Sox in team list....

Yeah, Boston drivers are pretty crazy. I drive as little as possible when I'm there. I normally fly in and take the T everywhere, but for PAX there's 10 of us who go in two cars, so it splits the gas up and makes it cheaper to drive.

But yeah, public transportation is the way to go in that town. And to think it used to be WORSE before the Big Dig...

3 hours? Are you running a query to get characteristics of every blade of grass on the planet?

I know of plenty of queries where I work for field data that take hours to run.

The team that runs those has boxes just for running those queries so that their personal laptops aren't tied up for hours.

These guys are using Sybase. It's not a production server, so knowing this company, it's probably running on an abacus. Roughly 2000 tables in it (many of those audits or lookups), majority of which have rows measured in the millions. Oh, and none of them are indexed, despite the fact that there are actual DBAs here. One of them emailed me a few weeks ago to say "OMG STOP RUNNING YOUR QUERY THE LOG FILE IS OVERLOADING." "OK, well, can the log be temporarily disabled on this non-prod database if it can't automatically expand by itself? Cough?" "NO U HAVE TO NOT JOIN ON THESE THREE TABLES"

Rock on, DBA. A wonderful solution for a relational database.
