Why is everyone so convinced Saad makes the team next year? Was there something already said or is this just wishful thinking?
This is fair. You can say that. I would think his chances of making the team are very very good atleast 60% maybe even 2 to1
However, we could make some off season moves. If we pick up a top 6 forward and a center then Saad may not have room in the top 6.... Then the Hawks brass probably contemplate do they bring him up to fill the 3rd line or is he better off developing and getting 1st line minutes in Rockford.
Regardless the Hawks fine ways to play rookies that are deserving. But you are right there are no guarantees Saad cracks the opening day roster. Yet I think 1/2 a season in Rockford would be enough to get him to Chicago.

I don't see the reason to rush him up at all. Start him in Rockford. See how he does there. If part way through the season he deserves a call up bring him up. Bowman should have some $$$ to throw around this summer. Can't see him not bringing in another top 6.

For the same reason a lot of people were convinced Smith would be a top 6 player this year. Saad looked good in a small sample size and fans overate prospects.

If we aren't signing free agents or making trades, then we'll need significant help, expecially at LW and Saad is our best prospect there. Are we really going to have yet another bridge year next year? I don't think the Hawks have any problem getting their young guys to the NHL ASAP and they have shown that over the years with many different players.
I want Oduya back. They signed Montador to be that 4th defenseman but he just doesn't have it anymore. If you can get Oduya on a 2 or 3 year contract then do it. I don't want to see Nick Leddy or Dylan Olsen forced to play top 4 minutes like they were this year. Good teams have deep, veteran defense.
Also they really need to spend some money and bring a goalie in to compete with Crawford, not just some also ran at the end of his career.
Well IMO his game is more NHL ready then most prospects
+ Watching how Hawks handled Kruger I would expect Saad to get same treatment and go right to Hawks and develop
Agree with what BWC said. Plus he cracked our opening day roster, why not crack it again next year?? Brunette will be gone, Frolik sucks, Stalberg will probably play on 3rd line. It's possible he starts out in rockford, and then gets the call-up.
I agree, I want Oduya back as well. Honestly was disappointed, like pretty much all of us, that he was the only addition to the team at the trade deadline, but I'd be damned if I didn't admit that he's won me over and been a quality addition so far.

Basically it's just that he's been playing insanely well in the OHL so far and is definitely one of our brightest prospects at this point in time. I claim no inside information on the matter, but I'd be very surprised if we didn't see Saad in the Indian Head full-time next season.
^ That will be the market especially with the cap going up. If the new CBA doesn't correct things, Keith will be making less than the Oduya types in two years.
Changes that should be made:
They need to go to a soft cap that is set through the life of the next CBA ($45m low end, $75m high end soft cap with max limit of $85m. 20% luxury tax on every cent spent over $75m), and a tiering system for UFA value (by a formula based on point shares...the hockey equivalent of win shares) that is used in the MLB.
The cap should be season by season salary, not the mean of a deal (i.e. Hawks would currently have a cap of $72m+ instead of $60m+). Profit sharing needs to go back to a 50/50 split.
These changes would prevent decent players from being overpaid, and would let the big dogs spend their assets while the smaller market teams cannot purposely suck so the owners could hoard all the money.
With Hammer and Montador's concussion problems this year, I think we definitely need to re-sign Oduya just in case. It wouldn't hurt Olsen to spend half of the season in Rockford and called up when injuries strike. I'd love if Oduya took 3 mil or less but I think he'll test the market and get more from someone else.
Mayers is a must sign... he's been nothing short of a solid and has done everything he's been asked. Definitely my favorite off-season signing. I'd be more than okay with him coming back for ~900K.
If Detroit doesn't win the Cup and signs Suter, I'd be surprised if Lidstrom doesn't come back. It would be a tour de force season for them and possibly the last time they could be the best team in the league for awhile. I can't see him passing that up as a way to go out.
Wouldn't losing Lidstrom and his cap hit be the deciding factor in the Wings going after Suter?
Is Hjalmarsson the next Hawk to get an extension? Any thoughts on what his length and term will be? I'm thinking he will want 4m a year for 16m
Is he worth it or should the Blackhawks organization part ways with Hjammer?
Why would Hammer get a raise? If anything he deserves less than we're' paying him. Although considering we gave Montador almost three mil, that will be a hard sell.
Eh, I don't think hammer is really overpaid by much. It'd be nice if he played more physically, but I'd say he's consistently our best defensive d man by a pretty fair margin. He's also looked better offensively this season I think.
I think 2 years 3.5 is right. I don't think he has earned a raise. He may have digressed a bit. Overall he probably was worth 3million, but he got 3.5 because the offer sheet. Players these days seem to stay the same, but salaries go up...I think it was a fair question to ask if he will get a raise? I'm not 100% sure we re-sign him. I think we do sign him --his age is right, but the concussion thing is valid.
