If he'd been booted, so be it. It's not the first time someone maybe should've been booted and had a direct impact on the outcome of the game. That he wasn't (or any of the other blown calls) is testiment to the poor quality of the officiating.

I think a 5 minute major or a 10 minute misconduct could of been called. I also think if Gomez was truly injured, the penalty could of easily ramped up to a game ejection.

Yeah I'm not getting at the butterfly effect outcome angle so much. Just curious if people thought he should have been booted. Had he been, I wonder how calls for a suspension would sound now. Would he be regarded as having served his time already? Or would the hit be viewed as more deserving of suspension since it was bad enough to eject him. So much depends on the initial call. I'm inclined to think that supplemental discipline is an overreach except in cases where a ref failed to see and call something in real-time. Of course the real solution is to get the refs and Shanny on the same page so ejection/suspension decisions are made on the same rubric.

Since the hit was only assessed a minor, it does not meet the standard for a game misconduct. The game penalty is only applicable to major penalties where a player to the face or head, per rule 41.5.

I believe that a minor for boarding was the correct call on the ice, and I believe that supplemental discipline afterwards is also correct.

Frankly, this whole thing is pretty cut and dry.

So what if Gomez hit Miller three years ago? Is he less of a jerk because of it? All my comment was about was a little karma anyway. You're making more out of it than necessary.

I'm expecting at least a game. It looked pretty foolish to me.

I can't count the posts that contain insensitivity directly from one poster to another. I won't even try because it's not a big deal...that's what fan boards are like. So given that, why is anyone going to get bent about an "insensitive" comment about a player that isn't even involved in the conversation? Come one people.

Then like I said, the league needs to get its in-game officiating in line with its supplemental discipline. It doesn't make sense that the correct call on ice would be only 2 for boarding, while you think he should get 1-2 games supplemental. The ref clearly saw the play, let him make the call in the context of the game. Hell he might have been thinking Myers had a right to be pissed after getting cheapshotted. They could have given him a game penalty for hitting Gomez's head into the boards no? Or is it just direct elbow/shoulder to the head that can get that? But alas, you say it is cut and dry. My apologies Shanny.

Holy schnikes. Such a brutal ruling that it has me thinking conspiracy. The league wants Ovechkin in the playoffs? At least we'll know we're a damn good team if we make the playoffs despite this junk.

Thought he deserved a game, maybe two, three is stiff. Wonder if it's Brayden or Big Joe getting the recall.

We're lucky it was only Gomez, because otherwise Myers would have been investigated for assault apparently.

Seems a bit much but he was given a pass on an elbow to the head on Zubrus early. So he made have been told it would be harsh if he was up for review again.

Lesson learned, if you're going to board someone, you should be named Evgeni Malkin.
