2pm: signs CB Jennings to 2-year deal
3pm: acquires WR Marshall for two 3rds
7:30pm: begins negotiations with DE Mincey
8pm: completes signing of QB Campbell
so in day 1, Emery got a #1 wideout, respectable #2 quarterback, and a capable starter/nickel. It's no guarantee that Mincey will sign, but if so he'd be a great platoon end, if not an outright starter.
I'm still pleasantly surprised. Marshall wouldn't have been my first choice of a receiver, but given that all it cost was 2 third rounders and he has a positive history with Cutler, I think it's a great move. And he's certainly a very good receiver.
He wasn't my first choice, because I didn't see Miami parting with him. But he's less of a cap hit than V-Jax, a better WR in my opinion (I think hes Top 5 in the NFL, if not Top 10), and has a solid relationship with Cutler. I also have always liked the edge and physicality he plays with. I think he brings a lot more effort and intensity, as well as skill, to this team than anyone else out there.
Still on Cloud 9 about this. Amazed we pulled this off, and for so cheap. Really can't wait to see how we round things out in Free Agency and for the draft...
Have to say, I think I kinda woulda liked Orton as a backup. Not sure if denver would be interested in moving him at all though. Campbell is certainly capable though.

Orton is a UFA...and he was last on the Chiefs. Remember, Denver waived him.
But I do think Orton wants to start, and probably will start somewhere, and may command more than a one-year, $3M deal. So Campbell was a good move.

Raiders ,,,, They have less then 1 mil in salary cap room
I think it's Seattle, they have said for about a week they really want him. We'll see what he is about, if he wants to win he'll sign with Chicago or another contender for a little less then with Buffalo or Seattle for the max.
After seeing what VJAX signed for I am even more happy that the Bears traded for Marshall a better WR for less money.

Bears WR Brandon Marshall was involved in another incident that could lead to an NFL review. More shortly at http://ESPN.com."
Statement from Brandon Marshalls Attorney Harvey Steinberg regarding Club incident:
"On March 12,2012 Brandon Marshall was the key note speaker at a charitable event in New York. After the event was over he, his wife and close friends attended a function at a local club.
While at the function a fight broke out NOT involving Mr. Marshall or his friends. While attempting to leave to avoid the melee Mrs. Marshall was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury.
While attempting to leave and take his wife to the hospital, the mayhem continued outside. Finally Mr. Marshall was able to take his wife to the hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.
Mr. Marshall is hoping to assist authorities in regards to this matter."
All this crap is just airing out dirty laundry to partially justify why the Phins moved him for so cheap. None of these legal problems directly center around Marshall, and based on what I've read it has nothing to do with his character nor should it involve a suspension, etc.
Arguable, but if it was serious the bears wouldn't have pulled the trigger.
Have you seen Chicago WR's core?
I doubt Marshall is suspended for a year. But odds are he will miss some time and be on thin ice.
The guy certainly has his issues, long before Miami, and they wanted to get something for him before it's potentially too late. It's certainly a good gamble for you guys, considering what you have, but this is also the risk you're taking.
Best case scenario for Chicago is hope Marshall turns his life around like Jared Allen did. As for those of you unaware, Allen was about one DUI bust away for being suspended for a year and/or kicked out of the NFL.
Which is why Minnesota was able to obtain him rather cheaply.

...based on what, exactly? Gloomy speculation on something that hasn't been reported?

He's been "turned around" for years. He's been getting treatment for his personality disorder for a long time and has been a model of high-character, per reports. The legal problems now are nowhere near what I would call red flags.
The only thing that would get him suspended are 11th hour steroids/etc violations or an arrest that's happened in the last 24 hours.
NFL star wide receiver Brandon Marshall — whose list of run-ins with the law is as long as a football field — allegedly slugged the woman at a Chelsea nightclub, The Post has learned.
Marshall was at Marquee early Sunday when he got into an argument with a group of friends celebrating a birthday, law-enforcement sources said.
