also, 5-3-1 voting systems suck. Give me a guy named 3rd star twice over a guy named 1st star once, anyday. But under a 5-3-1 system, that 2nd guy has twice as many points as the first guy.
Yes, I agree that 5-3-1 voting systems can be pretty unbalanced. So make it 7-5-3, then the two players in your example have almost the same point total, and you maintain the old [1st + 3rd = 2nd + 2nd] balance.
Maybe we should simply publish deeper voting than the three stars this season? It would obviously take longer to tabulate, but maybe a simple (5-3-1) points-based voting system like the old all-star voting and publish the results down to five players for each team in each series. Now that would be interesting.
I like that idea quite a bit. I know I voted for some under the radar players last year for stars. Like I thought Vinny Lecavalier was a strong player for the Mooseheads last year, and Fred Stanfield got a vote or two from me.

I was vocal about disliking playoffs in those lower-level drafts and pretty much had the mentality of why not if they were going to occur anyways (sort of what all of us seemed to feel haha).
I think I said something about wanting to do a more in-depth AST voting process but then again we had 3 picks a day to make about a week after the playoffs wrapped up in the other drafts. I see how it descends to picks for the sake of picks but doing something like that ATD #8 voting could really make it more meaningful.
I realize last year was the most picks ever with the 40-man ATD but there were plenty of AA guys who made the bump up (I can't speak for last year's ATD or MLD). If we actually vetted the results of those drafts a bit better than playoff debates and a simple series vote, I think a lot could be gained towards fixing some of the quirks ATD canon has produced.
As it stood, the all-star teams at those levels still produced a bit of discussion. The only problem is that discussion occurs after the results are final, and I think some of that info that becomes brought up after the fact would have swayed voters minds. Popein vs Ingarfield and Dewsbury vs Lamoureux (AAA again) come to mind just considering a few instances where our votes may have unfairly flattered players.
Going back to the weather in Vancouver. I think we've had more hail in the past 3 weeks than the past 3 years... And then when it stops it's a beautiful day.

Going back to the weather in Vancouver. I think we've had more hail in the past 3 weeks than the past 3 years... And then when it stops it's a beautiful day.
It's nice right now (after hailing for bloody a couple hours at noon), but cold. Can't be more than 6-7 degrees - and thats with the sun beating down.
Damn you Montrealer's with the warm weather and hot chicks struttin' around in shorts!
So Boris the farmer is out working in his field one day, when he accidentally uncovers an unexploded bomb from WW2. He brings it into the house and proudly show his wife Olga.
Olga says: "Boris, get this thing out of house now!"
Boris replies: "Olga, I will disarm bomb and clean it. It will look good in living room!"
Olga: "Boris, you can not defuse bomb! You will kill us. Give it to police."
Boris: "Woman, I was in army for 3 years. I can fix bomb!"
So Boris takes the bomb into the barn to open it up. And sure enough, KABOOM! it explodes, blowing off both his arms. Hearing the explosion, Olga runs into the barn.
"Oh, my poor sweet Boris" She exclaims, "Don't you know that in Soviet Russia, bomb disarms you?"
