The Business of HockeyDiscuss the financial and business aspects of the NHL. Franchise sales, valuations, TV contracts, ratings, expansion, relocation, the CBA and work stoppage discussion goes here.
Im from quebec city and i would prefer a new name/logo to start fresh but the old name is a lock for sure, the logo they have to tweak it a bit to sell more merch everybody here already has stuff with the old logo
The bottom line ( and remember that's all that is important to the new owners... making money ) is that the Winnipeg franchise made a very large pile of money off of a new logo even though the name was still Jets. I fully expect QC to do the same. Bring back the old name, but with a new logo. You just can't pass up the opportunity to make the money a new logo would make you.

I don't know that that's the bottom line. TNSE didn't even want to use the Jets name, right? Their hand was basically forced by the fans.
By contrast, PKP has stated publicly that he'd keep both the Nordiques name and logo. Not sure why this question keeps coming up, as he hasn't since stated anything to the contrary to the best of my knowledge. And he keeps appearing in public wearing Nords apparel with the old logo. Maybe he might tweak the logo, but I think it's more likely he'd keep the logo and tweak the uniforms from the most recent version.

Then make that new logo the alternate jersey they'll wear 5-6 times a year. If people like it, they'll buy it.

As for the Jets, it is true that at first TNSE didn't want the Jets name, but we were told that regardless of the name, the colours and look of the team was going to be different than in the past.
OK, but even if they keep the original logo, then the look of the rest of the jersey will be tweeked just enough to be different for the old ones, so that people will want to buy the new ones.
Here's a simple idea of such a tweak to sell more jerseys while keeping the logo look and simplicity. For example on the front of the blue jersey, just add a white band that represents the ice the n plays on. Do something similar on the white sweater if you wish (I'd do it only on the blue sweater).
Or give it angled edges to make the ice look more three-dimensional. (I prefer the full white band.)
It's in the spirit & look of simplicity of the beautiful classic look but you can see at a glance that it's new from just that little detail.

Well, according to some Coyotes supporters on this and other boards, they claim that they believe the Coyotes aren't going anywhere this season based on a single comment by Mike Nealy (sp?). I guess the wild ride continues.

I notice the Nordiques N has petty much universally been accepted as an “igloo”, but from my days living in Quebec City in the late eighties - not a good time to be a Nordiques fan! - I understood the upside down “U” was supposed to represent one of the gates in the walls surrounding Vieux Quebec. Can anyone else corroborate this?

That's right, it also represents "portes st-jean" and "portes st-louis", which are both famouns gates in Vieux Quebec.

You're right about this. Just like the Remparts' (partly):
