The Business of HockeyDiscuss the financial and business aspects of the NHL. Franchise sales, valuations, TV contracts, ratings, expansion, relocation, the CBA and work stoppage discussion goes here.
Then make that new logo the alternate jersey they'll wear 5-6 times a year. If people like it, they'll buy it.
I wonder why didn't they do that for the Jets? Keep the same jerseys and if people want new styles of jerseys you do a third, a fourth and fifth version as alternate.
True North put a stop to production of merchandise with the old logo on it. Makes good business sense, especially if they go to a retro third as Mark Chipman has suggested.
If the Nords came back, and played in the old jersies in the old barn, I think the nostalgia might just become overwhelming for some of the fans. Nothing quite like experiencing something you thought was gone forever - I know, I did it this past October, but I at least had the newness of the building and uniform to keep at least one of my feet firmly in the present.
But the emotion would be even more powerful. It wouldn't be "something that was" mixed something new, it would be "the thing that was" is here again.
If PKP keeps the original logo, I'll be the first surprised.
I've seen some concept from the firm that will brand the new team, as part of J'ai Ma Place, and they are different. Some were a slight variation of the old, some were completely new. If I were to choose, i'll pick them all. The new ones were spot on on the concept of nostalgia while giving it a 2012 style logo.

Dude, TNSE didn't even want to call them the Jets. That's how little attachment they had to the original Jets image.
I really hope PKP is more attached to the Nordiques brand than TNSE was to the Jets. Although I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, it would still rule to see the original Nords logo with the original Nords jerseys.
Anyone know how season ticket rights would be awarded for the Nords?....TNSE gave moose ST holder priority then the last 7k were a 15 second internet free for all!!! How would Quebec handle it???

"Jai ma place" members loosely translated="i have my seat" those people paid to get 1st priority on tickets they paid 5000$ for the lower bowl, 2500$ for mid bowl and 1500$ for top bowl , 25000$ for luxury suites.

They will get the 1st crack at tickets
Just checked out the website....thanks for the info
I personally doubt the league would allow PKP to reuse the old logo and sweaters. The merchandise is way too lucrative, definitely they'll be told to go a new direction.

The Jets had no time to contemplate a third jersey for this season.
I think True North initially wanted to name the team the Manitoba Moose.
Thankfully, they listened to the fanbase and went with the Jets.
I think the Jets may have a third uniform in year 3 based on the WHA Jets.

Follow the money.
It doesn't matter, the proceeds of merch sales in stores not owned by a team go straight in the NHL's accounts anyway.

Isn't that his point? That a different logo would sell more and thus be more profitable for the league, which is why the league would force PKP to change the logo?
I'm not sure if they can force him to do that and I hope he doesn't in any case, but I think that's what Mungman was getting at.

Dont see why they couldnt force him, if he buys the coyotes the league is allowed to not sell him the old logo

I'd stick with the logo. Wouldn't mind an updated or even an all new jersey! They would still make a lot of money and be respectful with the tradition.

That's the point, the league will see a pile of cash that would be foregone if they allowed them to rehash the old stuff.

Sure they can force them to not use the logo, PKP doesn't control it. As far as I know the league owns those rights. They could make them only use it as a third in exchange for control of it.
I'm not even convinced the Jets will use the old logo for their third. After a few years they may just start offering old logo stuff through their own stores to maximize profits off it, formnowmthey aren't licensing and merch with the old logo.
They'll stick with the name and get newer logo that resembles the old one maybe bared with a fleur de lys and a darker blue look. Something new and exciting like the cool Jets uniform.
You're right about this. Just like the Remparts' (partly):
See all the debate around old and new logo.
This is the old Remarts logo (1998-2004)
Or the first one (1970-1985)
So, Remparts have their classir R since the begining (1970) and still have it today, that single item which is the core of the teams logo didn't stop them to make a nice modern version. I don't know why you guys think the N from the original Nordiques logo could not still be present in a newer and updated version.

I like your avatar version of the updated jersey a lot.

See. This is Quebec City. We don't like to change things around. The remparts tried to used a new logo but finally went back to something very close to the initial logo.

You know that the old jets logos and trade marks are now property of the Jets, Rights. And that they stopped producing stuff with the old logos?.
I'm pretty sure it won't change a damn thing for the NHL.
So what are the odds that Nordiques games end up on Sportsnet East? I've noticed that TVA is recycling some of Rogers's Senators/Raptors/Blue Jays production, so could the reverse come true with the Nordiques?
I think the Nordiques games against the Canadiens, Leafs, Bruins, and Penguines would be a pretty good draw on the East Coast. TVA Sports also wouldn't have to worry about splitting the audience since its not available in most of Atlantic Canada and likewise Sportsnet East is not available in some pockets of the province of Quebec.

Not all the games but I think 10-12 games could be reasonable. I don't think TVA Sports worries about English-language stations taking its audience.

Pretty sure SNE will end up broadcasting between 20 and 35 Nordique games.
It'll be good to watch the Nords play in a jam packed arena, can't be too exciting for the players to constantly be playing in a rink with 5000 apathetic, non interested fans watching?
