Who is the best skater on the Rangers?

I see only 3 real candidates, but feel free to get creative.

Best skaters are Hags, Gabby, and McD.

Hags obviously has the most speed, but Richards going coast to coast on that goal last night required skating ability (and puck handling) that is beyond most of our players. Granted, a lot of time lately he's looked slow out there but that goal last night looked like the Richie who won the Conn Smythe. He's still got it...

Overall/combination. Just take into account that McD does more lateral because he's a Dman.

Probably McD then.

But Del Zoto also has solid agility, and good speed. Hags is the fastest/most explosive. Gabs is faster than McD in full stride, but not as agile imo.

Interesting, you think Cally is one of our best. I won't argue he is one of our faster ones, but I always thought he struggles with his turning/pivoting(especially with the puck).

Cally is a very good skater. No real flaws in his form/stride. Powerful. Agile.

Hagelin of the current squad.
There is room for discussion about north-south vs. east west.

But Kreider will beat all when he gets here, he is best in the system.

Also, there are a couple who are extremely strong.
You skate into them, it's a truck.
Anisimov is a good combo of both strength and overall speed.

I disagree on Gaborik being the best. He's fast straight ahead. Good at cutting.

But as far as edges, lateral movement, going from forward to reverse, McDonagh has him beat.

McDonagh is a phenomenal skater.

Fastest doesn't always mean best.

Just my opinion.

I also feel Stralman is a great skater. As is Eminger.

When Gaborik changes direction he veers off and almost ends up on 1st ave. Let's ignore his kinetic makeup deficiencies because they don't show up on the stat sheet.

McDonagh has a smooth, powerful stride.

Excellent skater.

I have a bias toward defensemen who are great skaters.

Its a profound position. Forwards are more glamorous and have an opportunity to use their straightaway speed if they have it. Whereas defensemen do a lot of their skating in tighter spaces, confined often to their own end. Its a different use of edges. Forward and back and lateral. Pivots.

McDonagh is a great skater. Smooth, effortless, great form, balance, edges.

The correct answer is Hagelin.

Guy skates like the wind on every shift. Gabby has good top speed also but really needs to excert himself to get there .Hagelin just takes 2 strides and he's flying.

McD is one of the best skating defensemans in the league.

Acceleration: Gabby
Speed: Hags

All-around? Tough to say. McD is in the conversation, and probably takes it for me.

If anyone has it, or can find it, the play McDonagh made on Kovalchuk.

His skating is phenomenal. Rubbed out a full speed Kovalchuk. McD out skated him going backward and pivoting laterally.

Generally, McDonagh, and Hags are better, but when he has 'his moments' Gabby is like Semin's shot during his moments
