Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award

Last year it was obvious Prust was going to win the award but this year several players could earn the nod. I went and voted for Girardi but considered voting McDonagh.

Who do you think deserves the award this year?

One of Hagelin Stepan or McDonagh should win it....ever since Hags been called up, he entered life into the team with effort speed and determination

Entire team should get the thing this year, no one (aside from Cally) has really stood out as that one glaringly superior player; everyone is doing everything exceptionally well.

If I had to choose though, it'd probably be Cally for being the absolute embodiment of what this team stands for. HMs to Lundy for being huge..well forever, Girardi for being a stalwart while Staal was sidelined, and McDonagh for being a beast.

I can't think of anyone who deserves it more than Girardi this year. He stepped up and essentially saved the season with Staal going down. The emergence of McDonagh is great, but there's no doubting who's held the back line together.

Leading NHL in TOI + playing through pain + blocking shots all season as if the puck tickles rather than spanks = Extra effort defined.

Boy how all of you seem to forget about Girardi just because of his recent slip lately. When Staal was out, this guy was a ****ing horse. He even stole an all-star spot from the NHL.

The award should go to Girardi, easily.

Girardi AINEC. Joked with a buddy last night that he has more saves this season than Biron.

The honor typically goes to generally "unheralded" player on a team. Girardi has been our 1st line defenseman for a couple of years now.

For me it's either between Cally who stepped up and delivered as team captain or McDonagh who became our 1st line defenseman as a sophomore in the NHL. Cally's recognition as a team captain as well as his prior selection to the USA national team kind of takes the "unheralded" label off of him.

I'm going with McDonagh.

I'm surprised more people didn't say Hagelin.

Girardi.

Find me another player on this team that leads the league in TOI, and against top offensive lines, among the top of the league in blocked shots.

Girardi. By a landslide.

Stu Bickel - He's been a solid fixture in the lineup despite being the 11th defensemen to play for the team this year, he dropped back two spots in depth with the additions of Stralman and Woywitka, and he has been reliable as both a forward and defenseman. He plays a simple, really hard game and finds success with it.
