BUT there are a million more players who completely flopped...steen, tlusty, that dude who went before both the sedins...so its really hard to judge, u never truly know what a player is gonna become.
Don't really wanna give up on Schenn so early..but for the right offer i don't think you can stop yourself from trading him. Top 10 pick in upcoming draft + bottom 4 d man OR 4-7 pick...just my opinion.
we just need to get someone who could either A) become a core top 6 forward B) a dman who could play defense and be able to pitch in offensively (and skate)

Steen did not flop, he is a great all around 2nd liner
Tlusty has been picking it up as of late and has looked great
that's just it with draft picks, you never know what you are going to get
you trust your scouting staff and hope for the best
sometimes you land a homerun , you land a decent player, or you can land a complete bust
leafs have problem with landing the 1st, and that is what we need .... the more you draft withing the top 10 the better chance you have of landing one (not only top 10, but thats where you get the largest % of landing one)

It's very hard to find instances where players fade out at 22 years of age. Not to mention, Steen and Tlusty also improved after 4 years of NHL experience so those should be added to my populated list.
Why are Schenn and Kadri the step children all of a sudden? What went wrong here?
I see in in Schenn's interviews, he looks checked out of this town. Why? What ruined him? What ruined Kadri? They were both highly regarded by all not just Toronto. Is this town a prospect killer? YES.

I'm sure going from 22+ minutes a night at the age of 18 to 15+ minutes a night at 22 is quite disappointing. Not to mention, he also visits the press box with greater frequency these days.
He's a hockey player who wants to win and play, like all guys, but neither is happening right now.
As a believer of Schenn, he shouldn't be untouchable by any means - if a trade comes in that suggests the Leafs are clear winners, then I wouldn't mind seeing him moved.
But there's no reason for Burke to be actively shopping this guy in the summer. The most obvious being that his trade value is most likely the lowest it's ever been since he was drafted.

I think some character guys are needed in this team that's all, some veterans are going to have to answer on what happened to us. Those players are more likely to move than schenner really.

Schenn could be a guy that is a victim of us needing to clear some cap room for Nash or possibly someone else via trade. Right now his cap hit isn't very good and may be considered overpayed by some, so it could be a cost cutting move to trim some of the cap. Burke will be making moves to make the playoffs next year, that's for sure.

because people here have no patience and the media knows people will eat it up
Phaneuf is the best offensive threat on the blueline for us, he wont be traded for that alone, no matter how much the rest of his game blows.
Based on optics alone, Phaneuf won't be traded - this team just won't trade their captain unless it's for a king's ransom and then some; the type of return that Phaneuf doesn't command around the league.
I'm not convinced Phaneuf is a problem either - I think people have a hard time separating Phaneuf "the captain" and Phaneuf "the player".
The player is terrible - he's slow, lacks agility, has an overrated shot, and has been masked/bailed out by Gunnarsson for most of the season.
The captain - is anything and everything you want in a captain. He's vocal, he's proud, he hates losing, he plays hard every single night, he's smart with the media, and has the respect and appreciation of his teammates.
He's a bottom 4 blue liner; not a top 2 guy. This team doesn't have a top 2 guy.

I think even without phaneuf the leafs have a solid offensive blue line. This has a lot of ifs along with it though. Can liles come back to form? Can Gardiner mature? Can franson mature and be used properly?
Phaneuf would give a solid return though, so that would need to be considered too.
