Garon out 3-4 weeks | Tokarski called up | Yzerman to scour Europe for FA option

Mathieu Garon left the game 3 minutes in with a lower body injury (groin?) and didn't return. Theoretically we could call up one of Tokarski or Janus but as we all know Yzerman wants them to take their time, sniff some playoff air in the AHL and he always tried to not hurt Norfolk's playoff chances / playoff run.

Marty Turco signed with Boston (1 year, $600k) to replace the injured Rask for at most the remainder of the regular season (can't play in the playoffs). He has to pass waivers just like Nabokov had to when he signed with Detroit last season - and got picked up by the Islanders.

I'd love to see this happen. LMFAO.

Any chance to pay back the league and the Bruins for getting to play Horton in game 7 after he doused a fan and threw a water bottle at them in game 6 would be amazing.

Would Turco be any better than Roli? Either way if Garon is out, we're going to need a 2nd goalie here.

Don't forget the sucker punches as well. And the 0 penalty calls in game 7. #foreverbitter

Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

I'm afraid that no matter what happens with who we pick up to play, our playoff hopes have left now the Garon got injured. Very unfortunate.

Some talk of Marty Turco not clearing waivers tomorrow. If claimed by another team,he can't play. Bruins will use him in games if he clears.

That's weird...looks like Tokarski will probably be getting a call up then. If Turco can't play if claimed by someone else then another team in the east is probably going to claim him.

That's strange. I know he wouldn't be able to play in the playoffs, for anybody, but why couldn't he play if claimed off of waivers? Or am I not understanding that tweet?

And McKenzie confirms Dreger's tweet.

So only motivation for a claim on Turco would be to keep BOS from getting him. If he clears, eligible to play for BOS in reg season only.

Bob McKenzie ‏
As @DarrenDreger has noted, if Turco is claimed on waivers today, he's INELIGIBLE to play any games at all for team claiming him.
Well that stinks. So, Tic or Janus?

It's Tic!

No official word on Garon's status but Tokarski will meet team in Washington

Lightning GM Yzerman says G Garon has torn groin muscle. Out 3-4 weeks. With Turco out of picture, Dustin Tokarski to the rescue.
This team can't get a ****ing break on anything this year.

Start Tik. Perfect opportunity to get him some games and see what we have in him. Roloson's a lost cause and if we want any hope in still making the playoffs we gotta hope Dustin can pull something out of his ass.

Looks like I won't need money for playoff tickets. Going to be an interesting finish to an interesting season. Kind of excited to see what Tokarski can do.

Tik is on fire right now. Throw him in there and see if he can keep the flame going until Garon is back.

Would they call up Tic to back up Roloson or does this mean Tic is going to start a few now?

Start Tic. As much as it pains me to say it, you know what you're going to get with Roli. And I don't think the team plays with any confidence whatsoever when he's in there.

Besides, who doesn't want to yell "Spoon" after every save?

Hard to imagine Boucher sticking with Roloson for 4 weeks. Tik will get some games.

Start Tic, Roloson has not held the opposition to less than 3 goals since November vs Pittsburgh. Unless Yzerman wants Yakupov? Otherwise Roloson should see as little ice time as possible.

Janus and Nagle can do enough for Norfolk for now.

I would hope he starts as Roli looked bad and Tik is hot. If they needed someone to ride the bench Janus or Nagle would of done fine.

Tokarski was phenomenal in junior. How do you guys feel about him stepping in and becoming an NHL goaltender?

My thought has always been, he could be at least the backup next season and take over as #1 the year after.

Thoughts?

Boucher after today's practice:

Quote:
"These goaltenders are going to get an opportunity to fight and make a difference and you never know which day is going to be their best day. I think ROli in the past has shown he's had some really good days, he's been able to win games for us, and I'm sure he's able to win games for us again. Tokarski obviously in this situation right now is going to get the net for sure at some point. I don't know when. I've been going over the plan I would want, but I think now we're game by game, and I have yet to talk to him...It's just two goaltenders are going to get an opportunity and Roli's been through this many times."
