I think the confusion here is that the two leagues have different definitions of the term "Restricted Free Agent." In the NHL, RFAs are more "free" compared to KHL RFAs. Some RFAs in the KHL are considered under contract, so they can't sign in another league. This doesn't hold true for NHL RFAs.

In the NHL, an RFA with a qualifying offer may leave his team and go and play in another league (not another team). Once the player files for arbitration, his decision to play in another league vests in the hands of his team; if the club accepts the contract awarded at arbitration, the player has to stay.

LOL @ how Poile's quote turned into that dude's tweet. Not the same statement at all.

I don't want to hear anything about Poile's beliefs. I'm tired of hearing about all this, and totally confused about all the rules involved. My head hurts.

Haven't heard about this conversation. It would shed light on Poile's comments about Radulov's window of opportunity closing if he resigns or extends with a KHL team at this point. Poile also mentioned that there are a lot of notions floating around that are untrue. I assumed he was referring to buyouts and Salavat not wanting to release him now for risk of losing his rights. The Daly-Medvedev conversation could be a strong arm attempt to get Rads here. Oh to be a fly on the wall.

There are so many ideas and explanations, conjectures, and plain ole hogwash that it doesn't seem that anyone knows what's going on. Except... Poile and Trotz seem optimistic, which they've never been. One definitive thing they've stated, a decision should be reached this weekend.

I hope Medvedev and the KHL want to play games in NY bad enough to put Radulov on a plane next week.

Jiri Hudler who chose to play in the KHL while a RFA with rights belonging to the Wings is a recent player who did exactly what people are saying can't be done. RFA status in the NHL only pertains to NHL teams, not other leagues.

Whoever started this latest round of speculation should be flogged. After really thinking there might be something concrete to rumors this time, the FACT is #47 is still not playing. I'm back in the mode of when Raduu is actually participating in pre-game skate, this man will not recieve 1 second of my thoughts connected with the Nashville Predators. Let's fix the sloppy passing, matador defense, and blown leads instead of living in fantasy land.

If Rads were to come back I would imagine that he would bump Hornqvist out of the top six, and Trotz would continue rotating Yip/Halischuk/Smith in and out with Wilson watching the game from the press box when he needs to. Nothing major

So I asked this in the GDT but I can no longer read it.... Is the Radulov situation a distraction?

It's probably played a small part. Maybe that's why Poile almost seemed to give an ultimatum of this weekend. If we don't hear anything by Monday, I think it's over until Fall. Just a gut feeling.

Let him rot in Russia. I feel like he has done nothing but distract our team and our fan base.

If Radulov is going to play in Ufa next season despite his dislike for the SY coach, then Rads will come back to the NHL at the tail end of next season (March) to burn off that final ELC year. It will be the final year of his KHL contract with Ufa, which means he will be able to get out of it much easier even if it doesn't officially expire until April 30, 2013.

He might not be able to come back with new CBA in place. And it is up to Polie. If he deside he does not want to lift that suspension then Rads is screwed and nobody going to talk about him anymore even in Russia.

Between the CBA and the possibility of us having a big FA offseason where we spend a lot of our money tying up players and picking up offensive help. Between both of these...I could see a point where the Preds say "You had your chance at a partial year, you have to play a full year now. Sorry, we're not hurting for you anymore."

Radulov would have qualified as a defective player under the old CBA as well as the current. Odds are, his status won't change much under the new one.

Good. Hope it stays like that for ever.

Rads needs to learn it the hard way.

Do you guys notice how they only talk about player that might come to NHL and nothing about ones who is done here.
Even in KHL nobody gives crap about them.
Rads will suffer drastically if he is not talked about.

Hope it happens.
