I just read something pretty interesting on Wikipedia (so it must be true). The tollbooth scene in The Godfather, when Sonny was killed, was shot at the construction site for the NVMC (and apparently also at Mitchell Field).
totally unrelated really but kind of not because were playing philly tonight, 12 monkeys takes place in philly because they shot the airport scenes in the philly convention center while that was still under construction.

This is true as my dad was a Nassau cop and was assigned to the site during filming of that scene
I was always told that the scene was shot at the old tollbooths on the Southern State Parkway in Valley Stream at exit 13. But that never seemed right.
"I don't want his Mother to see him like this.....Look how they massacred my boy"
They should change that line to....
"They shot Sonny in this dump which in 30 years will still look exactly the same. Look ma, the chalk line is even there under the Islanders rug in their locker room. No wonder they suck."
On a slightly related note... Last night's episode of "The Good Wife" had some hockey scenes that were shot at the Coliseum (a story sort of based off of the Bertuzzi-Moore situation).

Haha, I saw that. Was looking for the NCAA Tournament, flipped over to CBS first, and saw some hockey footage. Was so confused until I realized it was a TV show.
What's so funny about it? Its one of a handful of arena's not corporately named (MSG - sortof, Joe Louis are the others I can think of). On top of that it honors the Veterans of Nassau County.

No I'm not talking about that I'm talking about the scene in the Godfather and how it was filmed on the location of NVMC. For some reason it made me laugh.
