When the greatest NHL defenceman of all-time watches Erik Karlsson, he is reminded of the best of the best ... guys like Larry Robinson, Serge Savard, Guy Lapointe, Denis Potvin, Paul Coffey and Ray Bourque.

The jealous people will find a reason why it's meaningless.

First they ignored Karlsson. Then they laughed at Karlsson's defense. Now they are going to all these threads, and fighting about Karlsson's ability.

The thing with written articles like this is that they are often in constructed in such a manner as to get the most bang for their buck from the quotes provided. It's obvious that Bobby Orr was very complimentary of Karlsson but it seems as though Garrioch was trying to construct some larger compliment than Orr was ready to definitely state.

"He is that kind of player" could mean a number of things.

Yeah, Karlsson should make at least $2 million next year, when the greatest skater and top 3 all time player says he sees himself in Karlsson, he certainly deserves a raise.

Are you trying to say Robby has no credibility?

I love when someone tries to be clever here and it goes over everyone's heads.

Personally, I just wanted an excuse to post pictures of cool old hockey cards from the 70's.

Gump Worsley looks like he's been drinking paint thinner all afternoon in this picture.

Discuss.

Nice to hear someone as important saying to coaches to let their players play their style. Karlsson is gunna be a top 5 defense in league in scoring for years. Yes he will make mistakes, yes they will have many (-).
Off topic but related. Just look at Kessel and Gardiner since new coach who is making them play more defensive. Ottawa has it right. Too bad Burke hired another friend. T.O offense is gunna be as bad as defense next year.

Did Orr mention that nice goal Karlsson scored off Bishop's leg last night?

While Karlsson is a tremendous talent he still has lapses like the one last night & needs to take a less lackidasical appoach. Spezza has this same problem where they seem to get too confident & cannot do anything wrong & end up doing something stupid. Hopefully, we see less of these especially against the stinking Leafs.

I think Karlsson is most comparable to Ray Bourque, by that I mean a smallish defensemen with a divine mandate.

Denis Potvin loves Karlsson = homer, duh. also, cannot confirm but he might be drunk
Bobby Orr loves Karlsson = duh, he's Spezza's buddy, of course he'll say that

I guess we have to hear what Paul Coffey, Ray Bourque, and Nik Lidstrom all think of him.

Lidstrom is swedish though so obviously he's biased
Paul Coffey never knew how to play defense so what the hell does he know anyways?
And Ray Bourque, well he didn't even win a Cup with his own team, obviously can't be trusted

Sylvain St-Laurent from LeDroit interviewed Paul Coffey to ask him what he thought about Karlsson. He was pretty adamant that Karlsson deserved the Norris
