Sgarbossa Appreciation Thread

The talk around here's only been on McGinn, but I feel like we should be way more excited about this kid, I see him making the team next year.

Also OHL's leading scorer.

Smartest, best playmaker, second most dangerous player in goal area, second best stickhandler, and third best shot.

Pretty good, the OHL coaches must think highly of him.

good prospect pick up for the avs. the guy obviously has skills. wonder why he was never drafted? maybe a perfect replacment for our first rounder this year, ppg not quite as high as yakupovs but it is close.

Hope that isn't true, would feel really bad for Hishon; more for him then the Avs organization.

Hopefully, Hishon will be fine

Hey AD, love the column man. Any new updates on Joey Hishon? It's almost been a year now that he's been off the ice. I know he was doing some offseason workouts with some of the Avs so I was hopeful he'd be back on the ice this year. At this point, could we say his return and career is in jeopardy?
--Tyler, Boise, Id.

No, Tyler, there is really no good update. Hishon's still sidelined by concussion-type symptoms a year after taking a dirty hit from Brayden McNabb (now with the Buffalo Sabres) in a Memorial Cup playoff game last spring. McNabb probably should have gotten a 20-game suspension for what he did.

Instead, he got one. It was a totally dirty, gutless, blindside left elbow to the head as Hishon skated across the ice. Hishon went down and blood came from his head. He has not played since, and there simply is no way to say when or if the former first-round pick of the Avs will come back.

This is terrible. I know this sounds harsh but i wish there was some hockey law/ group/ council out there that says you want to make a hit like that well guess what you dont get to come back until he does. Have a nice life.

I agree. If there were an intentional hit that took someone out of commission for a very long time (>15 games) the player responsible would be suspended as long as the other player is out limited to the end of the season it occurred.

McNabb suffered a concussion in January but was able to play again 3 weeks later. It's crazy how different the effects of concussions are on different players.

Well...I can get a concussion from falling out of bed. I can also get one from a head on collision with a tractor trailer. I don't expect them to be the same.

Looking at bossa's numbers, seems like his offensive game really took off since he got to Sudbury. Playoff numbers are good too. What current NHLer would he comparable to style wise?

I guess that's why there are grade I, grade II, and grade III concussions...

We're appreciating everyone now aren't we?

First G2P then Mark Rycroft and now a prospect who a lot of us haven't watched play yet.

I thought about actually making one, but since we had to fight just to make a random thread, I knew it would be locked in like 3.5 seconds, and I'd probably get some ridic infraction.
