I thought he had looked good in his previous callups, but if he doesn't stick next year, he's probably done.
I am thinking he might get one last chance. There is no space for him on the NHL team, but i see no reason why they can'tt sign him to a two way contract even with Marincin and Klefbom coming up (Musil and Gernat will play 1 more year in the junior).
They need some veteran d-men in Oklahoma City and Plante is an AHL star.
I can't see them just letting Plante go. There might be some issues with spots, but I can see someone from Junior going to the ECHL like Martindale. Maybe he's dealt in a package at the draft, but I don't think the Oilers can just let this guy walk.
Dmen take a long time to develop in lots of cases, the Oilers currently have space for 8 additional contracts out of the 50 allotted to each team, low risk to sign him to another 2 way deal.
Since hes an AHL star it would seem unwise to throw this guy away just yet. (its not like hes 30)
He's 22. The only d-man on our team who started playing regularily in the league at younger than 22 was Smid. But go ahead and throw him under the bus. There is no way that he's done here.

The difference between him and our other dmen, is the other guys had the tools to be successful, Plante doesn't
But if he's a guy who provides stability in OKC, why would they throw him away? He's going to be a cog in the defence of a consistently competitive AHL team moving forward. That in itself makes him valuable to this franchise, as it assists in the further development of a large group of our prospects. And the fact that he is still a prospect is just icing on the cake.

Well, I can think of a couple guys in the NHL who have carved solid careers for themselves playing similar style as Plante: Hal Gill, Andy Sutton come to mind. Plante is 2 years younger than Petry, who is only now beginning to establish himself as an NHL player. IMHO< they should keep Plante for a couple more years. The guys they should get rid of is Chorney, Peckham and Motin.

Peckham is a year older than Plante and has proven infinitely more. Also the difference between a guy like Sutton and Plante is that even though Sutton is a shutdown guy, he can still handle the puck quite well (whereas Plante looks like his wrist physically can't move when he stick handles and passes) and think the game at an NHL level unlike Plante. Oh, he can also skate half decent for a big man. Plante's flaws aren't easy to overcome
Zero future. Doesn't have NHL skills, when the 'he needs to work on his skating and mobility' comment is still there 4 years down the road he is past suspect and is gonzo.
I hope they bring him back for at least another season.
Solid AHLer, at least.
yep, no reason to get rid of him yet. He has improved every year in the AHL. He is an All-star this season and having players like him on the farm is a very good thing.

He does need to stop fighting though.
I disagree. Fighting is one of the reasons he may eventually get an NHL job

This. Unless the game "slows" down due to ****** reffing mandated by the league, Plante will be career minor leaguer
