Ashton's first 6 games.

What do you guys think? Where are the strengths in his game, what does he have to work on? What type of player do you think he could become?

I think he's been awesome. The fight with Matthias made me apprechiate the kid a lot more too.

Good with the small things. Need to get the offense going.

Has been improving, but still not able to generate much. Needs more AHL time.

He doesn't look out of place in a bottom six role though.

he is doing a lot of things well, but not generating anything in terms of offense. Like his physicality and willingness to work on the boards and win battles. Maybe with more time here or in the AHL he'll work on he'll come around offensively. If he does he'll have a good spot on the team.

Hes a beast down low along the boards fighting for the puck, blocking the puck with his body going to the net etc. He utilizes his size/ frame extremely well and is swift. As someone said ^ he doesnt seem out of place on a bottom pairing role. Too be honest he didnt seem out of place in a top six role either, he just couldnt capitalize on opportunities (so I guess that means he's out of place? lol) anyways he still looked slick nonetheless

Already looks like a good 4th liner/decent 3rd liner. Good boardplay, finishes some checks, etc. Does a lot of little things good.

But as others have said, he needs to go to the A to work on his offense.

I think we have a really good gem on our hands. I've always been high on Ashton; I could see him being what Kule was last year for us eventually.

Something that has really impressed me is his ability to stay on his feet. Whenever someone has tried hitting or rocking him, he's come out on top, and for a player as young as him... that's great.

I really like him, but he shouldn't be playing so many minutes already.

You can tell he still needs to fill out, which is scary given he already is quite strong on his skates and effective on the boards. When he fills out, he'll be driving the net and that could translate to some good offensive production.

I like the kid, and I also think he and Frattin make a nice combo on the wall, we might just have a really good cycle line for the future.

agreed... he's got incredible potential. it's all about how he matures and develops as a player and person. only time will tell but i'jm stoked to see how he and frattin develop.

He might end being the type of kid you can park out front of the net too, which we're going to need with Carlyle's system to generate offence.

It's fantastic that his physicality is already there at such a young age. The hands will come along when he get's more used to the pace.

Definitely like what I see from this kid. Not afraid to lay the big hit and mix it up, skates well for a big guy, knows when to shoot and when to pass, probably one of our best players on the boards(we suck at board play), just needs to get a bit more confident and the puck will go in for him. Very happy with the prospect we got from Aulie.

Tampa* never thought he was useless. IIRC he was a top 3 prospect there and was establishing a top 3/6 role in Norfolk. There's no denying that he can still use some seasoning in the AHL but he hasn't really looked out of place in the time he's been called up. So far he's been cycling the puck well, dumping it out of the defensive zone which was an issue for the Leafs, attacking the net and drawing penalties (although getting some as well). He hasn't been on the scoresheet but then again neither has Kulemin for most of the season.

Answering the question of what he could become, I'd say a 20-25 goal, 40-50 point player. He plays a Carlyle type game similar to Kulemin and I can see him flourish in this type of system.

I really him a lot. Big power foward with skills and very strong for his age especially. The best thing is the way he plays his heart out, every game he plays he gets more confident and creates more and more quality scoring chance. I expect a really good trainning camp from him and I see our 3rd line as ashton- bozak/connoly/colborne- frattin next year.

I think he'll at least be a good third liner..because he's looking like a good one right now.

He needs more AHL time to refine the scoring tough but he can ATLEAST be a guy that can chip in 20 goals and 15-20 assists IMO while being good physically and on the boards.

has solid 3rd liner written all over him. he's pretty much just focused on winning all his 1 on 1 battles, he's playing as if the net doesn't exist, but with some more time in the AHL, he'll develop his scoring touch hopefully.

frattin - colborne - ashton

Patience we must have. Can't wait for this line:

Frattin-Colborne-Ashton.

This line screams chemistry. Colborne the play-maker, Frattin the sniper and Ashton the net presence.
