Can anyone tell me what's going on with the Winterhawks?
They've fallen apart these last two games.
I don't know but I hope it continues. As an Oil Kings fan, I would have to see Portland in the finals (assuming we beat MJ). Kamloops and TC are obviously no picnic either, but neither team has been as impressive in the playoffs.
Spokane is a giant wtf for me at this point. I had no idea they had it in them
Chicoutimi made some good moves at the deadline. Granted it should cost them a lot for next year they still acquired some good pieces. Trading for Pageau and Ouellet has been significant for them. Gibson is back to regular form after a sub-par year.
Never been a fan of Shawinigan's goaltenders. For some reason a lot people said they had the best duo in the league and whatnot but their stats are mainly due to good defennsive play in front of them.
Gormley hasn't been that good for them. Granted he was injured and whatnot. Ellis really turned out to be their best acquisition at the deadline. Bournival isn't producing at the same rate he did in the regular season. Kabanov had some good games some invisible. Shawinigan is still a good team but with Chicoutimi's acquisition I really thought they could upset Shawinigan in that series.
The Mooseheads trio of 16yr olds are at it again in game six, after two periods Drouin has a goal and two assists, Mackinnon has a goal and an assist and Fucale has stopped 27 of 28.....
Pretty epic choke job by Quebec to let it get to 7 against a team filled with 16 year olds (even though they appear to be excellent).
Yeah, this is pretty shocking. I definitely didn't expect it after they were down 3-0. That being said, they had the lead heading into the 3rd for the first two games, and played well enough to win the 3rd game, so it wasn't as much of a blow out as it looked.
I'm still leaning towards Quebec winning tomorrow, as experience should win out. These kids are something else though.
can't say I'm surprised especially with Bournival and Gormley being non-factors in the series
Indeed Bournival sucks and gormley is clearly still seriously injured. they should have waited before letting him play. Ellis is stellar though.

well most didn't believe we had a slight chance.
the cost of Pageau, ouellet and gagnon is reasonable as it is a couple of picks, Matteau (who would not have shown up), Bourret and Poulin next year. Bourret would not have made it anyway with gagnon, Asselin ans O'brien superior.
Kabanov is playing stellar in Shawinigan but for some reason struggle on the big ice here. Bournival has no offensive creativity at all and gormley can't turn on one side.
Where you're wrong is on their goaltenders. Dubeau has been amazing for them and the series would be finished if not for him (or Gibson) or that ref Bedard who totally stole a game to us.

I did
ok so the rumors of Hudon going to Gatineau are false after all?
agreed on Dubeau but Girard had a poor start to the series. Before the series I was listening to Shawi's media and in their opinion they had the best goaltenders of the top teams. Can't say I agreed with that.

I think they have the most depth in goaltending. Girard allowed 2 bad goals out of 6 in the first game and they puklled the plug. Dubeau's performance prevented Girard to come back.
if we look at the teams left they have the most depth with halifax and Québec.
right now in the quarter I'd take them in that order.
1-Marcoux
2-Gibson
3-Fucale
4-Dubeau
5-Domingue
6- Cadorette
7- Corbeil-thériault
8- Gervais-Chouinard
And no Hudon, Grégoire, Dauphin and Desbiens are definately not going to Gatineau.
Jesus, Shawinigan doesn't have a whole lot of draft picks in the coming years and they're probably going to lose a tonne of players. Makes me cheer for Chicoutimi even more

Gabriel Desjardins, suspended.
Vincent Barnard, not playing, injured.
Frederick Roy and Mikhail Grigorenko, playing injured.
I expect a Moose win tonight.
The difference is that Mooseheads' youngsters play their best hockey while Quebec's youngsters are invisible. Quebec's overagers are supposed to be better than Halifax' but 2/3 of them being injured, it doesn't help at all.
Just putting it out there the Ducks have the CHL's best goaltender ATM
John Gibson 95.3% sv%
Next best is in the WHL with 94.1%. Take that Campbell.
Also, everyone keeps crediting the Rangers' defense for Gibson's high stats.
John Gibson also leads the CHL in saves made with 447 throughout the playoffs. Seems a bit porous to me. Next most is also in the OHL with 422 but Niederberger has a 93.6 save percentage. The highest save totals in the other two leagues are WHL: 307, 295 QMJHL: 256, 253.
He also has the highest OHL GAA (with the exception of Missisauga's goalie who was bounced early) and the 4th highest GAA among active CHL goaltenders.
Does this tip the scales in the Campbell vs Gibson debate at all (I'm already sold that passing on Puempel, Phillips, and Jenner for Rakell and Gibson is the right choice (though Saad and Gibson would've been nicer))?
Goalie debates can only be settled in the NHL really. They're so random. Gibson's definitely a good pick though.
BTW, Phillips + Puempel were drafted before any of the Anaheim picks, unless you're referring to the trade down. Makes more sense to get an ok prospect and a great goalie prospect instead of one possibly better, maybe not prospect.

Campbell is in the AHL now and playing really well.

Ducks traded down from 22.
Still weird seeing TML picking Biggs and Percy when Puempel and Phillips were still on the board. Which helps my claim that Burke isn't necessarily going to take who you expect him to.

Don't get me started. I thought those picks were abysmal.
