Strange indeed! But 2 days ago we had a Val D'Or vs Halifax 1st round...

Won't predict the final one, considering my position.
Medicine Hat in five.

I like your other picks.

(2) Moose Jaw vs (7) Regina
- Moose Jaw In 6, haven't seen either team play, but if Rielly is back, would be a huge boost for the Warriors cup run.

(3) Calgary vs (6) Brandon
- Brandon in 7, I think Sundher is going to step up and so is the rest of Brandon, Pulock and Roy are going to be absolute rocks on the blueline.

(4) Medicine Hat vs (5) Saskatoon
- Medicine in 6, I like the depth on Saskatoon, the loss of Thrower is huge, Etem and Shinkaruk are going to light the lamp on Makarov.

Western Confrence
(1) Tri City vs (8) Everett
- Tri-City in 4, Kent Simpson won't be able to hold up Holland, Shimmmin (spelling) and Hudgesman.

(2) Kamloops vs (7) Victoria
- Kamloops in 6, Victoria is confident right now, they beat Portland twice, Kamloops is a speedy team, and Rintoul can't carry the defense for the Royals to win the series.

(3) Portland vs (6) Kelowna
- Portland in 5, Portland just got off of a 8-2 win vs a eager Seattle team, Kelowna is streaky and Portland is going to go through the young Kelowna defense.

(4) Vancouver vs (5) Spokane
- Vancouver in 7, A really good series, could be the best out of the 8. The powerhouses of Gallagher, Tvrdon, Musil and the now riser in the draft Kulak, I think Vancouver is going to win a thriller of a series.
I think Musil is gone for the year with a broken wrist.

I thought I'd take a look at the travel schedule for the first round across all three leagues, so I went to Google maps. Below are the three matchups with the longest and shortest travel for each league. Please note that this is the calculated driving distance between the cities and not geographical distance. Also, feel free to correct any errors.

Shortest distance:
Moose Jaw - Regina: 75 km (47 miles)
Barrie - Mississauga: 99 km (61)
Kitchener - Owen Sound: 150 km (193)
Quebec City - Drummondville: 151 km (94)
Boisbriand - Gatineau: 160 km (99)
St. Catherines (Niagara) - Oshawa: 171 km (106)
Halifax - Moncton: 261 km (161)
Kennewick (Tri-City) - Everett: 400 km (248)
Kamloops - Victoria: 457 km (284)

Longest distance:
Calgary - Brandon*: 1116 km (693 miles)
Rimouski - Val-d'Or: 1051 km (652)
Chicoutimi - Bathurst: 824 km (512)
Portland - Kelowna: 782 km (486)
Shawinigan - Rouyn-Noranda: 764 km (474)
Edmonton - Cranbrook (Kootenay): 681 km (423)
Brampton - Sudbury: 390 km (245)
Plymouth - Guelph: 358 km (223)
Ottawa - Belleville: 270 km (167)

* Apparently Brandon's home games in the first round are scheduled to be played at the MTS Centre, which adds another 211 kilometers.

Saint John to Cape Breton is just as far as Quebec city/surrounding area if I'm not mistaken it's like an 8 hour drive

Anyways Saint John should take the Q handedly. Niagara from the O and a big old guess that Vancouver will win the W

WHL Playoff predictions

Edmonton vs Kootenay - Oil Kings should be too much too handle even for a good defensive team like Kootenay. Even if Lieuwen stands on his head his team can't score.

Oil Kings in 5

Moose Jaw vs Regina - The Highway series is a good matchup in the 1st round. Moose Jaw likes to intimidate its opponents and they have the personel to do it. They also feature a pretty balanced attack. The Pats work real hard and have a solid defense. They don't have the talent up front though.

Warriors in 6

Calgary vs Brandon
- 2 teams that seem to always meet in the playoffs. Calgary is a balanced 4 line team with a huge defense group. Brandon is the best team the past 20 games in the league and has a leathal first line. If Brandon gets secondary scoring and solid goaltending I see them taking this.

Wheat Kings in 6

Medicine Hat vs Saskatoon - 1 team likes to roll all its lines and 1 team has 1 line that does it all. Will come down to who's goaltending is better and I think Bunz will take this. The Blades have not had much playoff success and it will not shock me to see them bow out here.

Tigers in 7

Tri-City vs Everett

David vs Goalith. Everett got in on the last day. No scoring and some decent defenders is all they have. Tri-City is about as well balanced a team there is. Scoring, size, speed, skill, size on defense, solid puck movers and 2 top notch goalies. If Everett wins would be one of the bigger upsets I have seen.

Americans in 4

Kamloops vs Victoria

If there is an upset to be had it is here. Victoria isn't as bad as there record indicates. Kamloops is a smallish team. If Victoria can get some goaltending and stay out of the box I can see them giving the Blazers fits. If not it is over early.

Blazers in 7

Portland vs Kelowna

Good thing Bartschi is coming back the Hawks seem to struggle without him. Kelowna is a decent team but I don't think they can compete line for line with the Hawks. They need to stay out of the box but I have feeling they won't be able too.

Winterhawks in 6

Spokane vs Vancouver

2 really well coached teams will do battle here. Spokane is a really lunch box team and will look to win the battles down low. Vancouver is a bit of a mystery team as I am not sure how good they really are. Without Musil they might be hurting when it comes to those corner battles. I think the Chiefs will take this in a hard fought series

Chiefs in 7

Lets see if Malcolm Subban's GAA can go to under 5 vs the 67s. He looks like a pee-wee goalie every time those teams play.

Go 67s!

I really do like their team. Even though they lost a TON from the Schenn deal.

If they get secondary scoring then I think they can go on a deep run.

For Edmonton, Kootenay has to be the worst team to face in the 1st round. I think the Kings will squeak by, but it will be an exhausting series.

Plus they have Max Reinhart and he has been one of the best players I've seen this season. The guy is seriously, O'Reilly 2.0.

Someone had SJ against Blainville in the final

First Round
1) Saint John vs. 16) Cape Breton - Dogs in 4 Lol the Dogs will win more games in this series that the Eagles will get goals
2) Shawinigan vs. 15) Rouyn Noranda - Shawi in 4
3) Blainville vs. 14) Gatineau - Armada in 6 , missing Hyka will hurt alot
4) Victoriaville vs. 13) Baie Comeau - Tigres in 6
5) Quebec vs. 12) Drummondville - Paddy Roy's in 5
6) Halifax vs. 11) Moncton - Moose in 6 Closer than alot of peope think...
7) Rimouski vs. 10) Val-d'Or - Oceanic in 7
8) Chicoutimi vs. 9) Bathurst - Titan in 7

Second Round
1) Saint John vs. 9) Bathurst - Pups in 5
2) Shawinigan vs. 7) Rimouski - Shawi in 6
3) Blainville vs. 6) Halifax - Moose in 7 BLB are on a role, but I'd rather play Moncton that these guys tbh... still no easy task
4) Victoriaville vs. 5) Quebec Remps in 7

Semis
1) Saint John vs. 6) Halifax Dogs in 6
2) Shawinigan vs. 5) Quebec Shawi in 7

Finals

The SeaDogs are untouchable. Lol, no one will push them really.... maybe Shawi but other than that SJ should see another Mem Cup ring on their finger this year.

Can't wait to see a Niagara, Tri-City, Edmonton or London take these guys on to see how they size up..

Even though Barrie isn't a favourite in the OHL, them losing Pearson is going to pretty much kill their chances.

Just a note that because of the travel (Calgary to Winnipeg), the series is going to go to a 2-3-2 format to minimize travel.

Maybe that's why they were so motivated to end it quickly back in '98.

Lots of good predictions out there. I have a feeling Kelowna is being underrated here as all they need is a couple of things to line up to have an excellent team. Kamloops well, good regular season but its been so long since they've left the first round, i'll believe it when I see it! Think it would be great for Victoria to get some good extended playoff action in their first year.

Would also LOVE a Portland/Edmonton final for a number of reasons. I think the teams are both very dynamic and would put on a fantastic show. Good mix of Blue chippers and young prospects coming into their own. Would also pit the Winterhawks against their former home and franchise name.
