Why do I get the feeling this could get messy

This is why they kept Schneider. They're going to divide the team in half. Who gets which Sedin in the divorce?

Seems unlikely given the ownership structure.
The Aquilini Investment Group owns Canucks Sports & Entertainment, which includes the Vancouver Canucks and Rogers Arena, the building located on prime land in the city’s downtown core. The team is worth $300-million, Forbes Magazine estimated recently.

Francesco Aquilini, the eldest of three brothers, runs the team. It is unclear what individual stake he has in the club, along with brothers Roberto and Paolo, and father Luigi.

In an interview, Mr. Aquilini said the hockey team would not be affected by the divorce proceedings.

“It’s business as usual,” Mr. Aquilini, 51, said in a telephone interview Friday afternoon after the court session concluded. He did not appear in court.

“This is a personal and private matter, and I hope the media will respect our privacy. It’s really unfortunate. My wife and I are ending our marriage.”

If she were to be successful then I could see this being the next tactic used by Jim Balsillie to get a team.

No it was the OP making a claim unsupported by the media reports or the law. He sensationalized it.

To be fair, I was driving home and on the radio they said "CTV just did a news report claiming that Aquilinis wife wants control of the Canucks in their divorce proceedings".

And then they went on to talk about sports scores.

They do seem to love leading people on.

The OP's link was dead so I changed it to the G & M. I've told him if he can find the proper link that he can put it back in. Then we may see.

I didn't sensationalized or claimed anything.

I was on my ride home on public transit and I just copy/pasted it from the tweet I received on my twitter feed. That tweet has since been removed, both by Team 1040 and ctvbc news (where it orginated from and was retweeted by team1040. The broken link indicated the subject line I used.) Of course I can't prove it anymore. I didn't sensationalized or claimed anything - I simply copied and pasted.

And if you do a search on twitter like I did, people were talking about Aquillini's wife wanting to control the Canucks even before I did my OP. I am not saying, but...... just saying.....

Okay it appears that what Vanier Park did was acceptable and complied with HF standards. He heard/saw a story that was probably eventually determined to be sensationalist by the source he quoted and had the rug pulled out from under him. Let's move on please.

Don't his brothers also have partial shares in ownership? I really hope - if true - this doesn't become a very ugly, public deal like the McCourts in LA. That was embarrassing for everyone involved.

Why not? Maybe she is a Shea Weber fan.

The Vancouver Canucks already had the dazzling Sedin twins starring on ice. And now they have the three Aquilini brothers in full control of the business side of the National Hockey League franchise.

The Aquilini Investment Group, owned by local residents Francesco, Roberto and Paolo Aquilini, reached an agreement Wednesday to purchase the remaining 50 per cent of the NHL club and General Motors Place arena from Seattle billionaire John E. McCaw.

The Aquilinis had earlier gained a 50-per-cent share of Orca Bay Sports and Entertainment from McCaw in November of 2004.

Or less than a third because the father also has shares in the holding company - that owns the Canucks and Rogers Arena - The Aquilini Investment Group.

It would also depend upon how the shares of the holding company were structured - who has voting control, etc.

And there is almost assuredly a shareholders' agreement where divorce would be a triggering event which would be pretty much standard in such cases. In that case a third party (the ex-wife) cannot just assume the shares, they have to be offered to the existing shareholders at price determined pursuant to the shareholders agreement. Standard corporate stuff.

Drafted a lot of shareholders agreements over the years and been involved triggering events and in division of assets. Nothing to see here. This is nothing like the Frank McCourt/ LA Dodgers scenario.

As the Province is now reporting - Aquilini divorce: Canucks custody not in dispute http://www.theprovince.com/news/Aqui...417/story.html

It shouldn't affect the Canucks. Unless his wife pulls a rabbit out of her hat and gains possession of the team, nothing happens to the team IMO.
