Only reason the Kings, Yotes and Flames are still in the race is because of all the loser points they collected. I much rather see the Stars, Avs and Sharks make it because they earned it more. But loser points are part of the game, there is nothing you can do about it so it'll be tough to predict who will get in and who won't. If I had to put money on it, I'd say Sharks, Kings and Yotes. I'd love for Dallas to make it but it probably won't end up happening because it's what I want since they are my team and we have had no luck in the past 3 years.
It seems that every team in this race is refusing to lose. It's getting really frustrating as a fan with a vested interest. I can only imagine what other fan bases were thinking when the avs scored with a second left against Buffalo. This race will likely go down to the wire and likely some sort of tie-braker will come into play..
Before Thursday night's game, I would have said the Sharks chances were less than 50%, but if they continue to give the effort they have the last two games AND the coaches continue to scratch White, Handzus, etc., the Sharks will make the playoffs, and very likely win the division. However, all of those teams have been so inconsistent the last few weeks and there are so many games left between them, any predictions right now are pure conjecture. It is gonna be fun to watch though.
-I dont think Chicago is a lock for the 6th seed but I do think they will make the playoffs.
-I think the Sharks will make the playoffs.
-I think Colorado and Calgary will both miss the playoffs.
-That leaves 2 spots for Dallas, LA, and Phoenix to fight over. It's too close to call but if I had to choose, I think LA will be the team that misses.
My own opinion of the teams. Nothing the Kings have done leads me to believe that they are the better team.
I think since acquiring Carter the Kings have been a much, much better team than they've been all season. So that, I think, is why he wanted to revisit your original statement after Tuesday's game... because then you'll get to (hopefully) experience who the Kings are now. They look more like the dangerous team everyone expected them to be in October than the underachievers they were mid-season. If we weren't counting this last stretch of 11 games, I'd agree that they've done nothing to prove they're a good team... but they're proving it now.
I think the Kings have a good shot at making the playoffs, but I'm not getting my hopes up, just in case. San Jose's probably in the same position and the two teams might be battling for 3rd/7th. Though, it won't be decided until those last two games of the season. I think Colorado and Phoenix will miss it and Calgary and Dallas will fight it out for the 8th seed.
Honestly, though, it's impossible to say any of that with any sort of certainty. Anything can happen and it's going to be neck and neck until the very end.

I've seen a few games since they got Carter. They're better than what they were but not enough for me to say that they're a better team than San Jose. I think they will make the playoffs but as a 7.

You know the Sharks have almost as many loser points as those other teams you mentioned, right? Also, they and the Avalanche have a lot of shootout wins. Did you even fact check before you spewed out this nonsense?

Doesn't change the fact that there are teams that are benefiting heavily from the loser point.
The Sharks are above .500. The other teams he mentioned, cannot say the same.

They're above 500 because of their shootout wins. They have fewer ROWs than the Kings. If you're going to complain about the loser points, you can't ignore shootout wins.

Yeah, I don't understand why anyone would complain about the bonus point. It's part of the game. Besides, they're all close enough overall that that issue doesn't really matter.
My predictions:
DAL wins division, eliminated in the 1st round.
SJ finishes 7th, would love them to upset VAN but can't see it.
LA finishes 8th, gives STL a run for there money but come up a bit short.
PHX just barely misses out.
COL misses by 3-5 points
CAL tailes off and are pretty much out of the race with 4/5 games left.
My own opinion of the teams. Nothing the Kings have done leads me to believe that they are the better team.
So with the Kings a MUCH better team after the trade deadline, finally firing on all cylinders... and the Sharks struggling, you're sure that the Sharks are the better team based on nothing but your own opinion? Got it.

My gut feeling (that I've had for some time) is that San Jose wins their division and gets the 3rd seed (Ends up facing Chicago in 1st rd)... Dallas hangs on to finish 7th (and faces Vancouver... and L.A. grabs the 8 seed (and gets the Blues).
Colorado, Phoenix and Calgary all fall short.
Either way, the schedule maker definitely has added to the drama by making the Kings & Sharks face each other 3 times in their final 10 games, including a home & home to finish the season.

Did you watch the Sharks the last two games with Havlat finally healthy? Yeah, they're still better.

Every team goes through rough patches, yours did too.
Honestly, it comes down to opinions at this point, his opinion is the Sharks are better than the kings, there is no reason for you to keep coming at him.

I have watched the past couple Sharks games (going to school in NorCal means all my friends are Sharks fans) and they're definitely starting to look like the Sharks we're all used to seeing. But I wouldn't necessarily say they're better than the Kings at this point. The Kings have been offensively dominating teams lately, and we all know how good their defense and goalie are. I have a feeling the 3 remaining games between them will be just as intense as a playoff series. I can't wait, personally.

Both teams are great, I'm excited also.
as previously mentioned though, at this point it's all about opinions on who the better team is, no reason for some people to get so defensive.
As a non-Shark AND non-King fan...I'd personally be more scared to face the Kings simply because of the goaltending. Both teams are better than their records, and both have advantages over the other, but to me... Quick is a guy who can steal a game(s) in a series by himself, while Niemi is...well, lets just say that he doesn't scare me.

To be fair, Niemi has been playing really solid his last couple of games and Quick can be a bit inconsistent towards the end of the season.
