I didn't think this fit into an existing thread...
We are all assuming that Doug Weight is the next coach and I am basing this thread on that assumption.
This means a few things might have happened.
1-Wang went over Snow's head and hired DW. (yes, I know the owner really can't go over the GM's head, but, you know what I mean!)
If this does happen, and I were Snow, I'd resign right then and there. Apparently my council on who would be a good fit isn't needed when it comes to a coach, so why would it be trusted for players?
2-Snow didn't interview anybody else.
If so, then he needs to go. No debate, no questions, he needs to go.
3-Snow interviewed others, still hired DW and therefore is inept.
If so, then he needs to go. No debate, no questions, he needs to go.
4-Snow did what he was told by Wang.
If so, then he needs to go. No debate, no questions, he needs to go.
Am I missing anything here?
Looks like Snow is almost guaranteed a lose/lose situation.

A real experienced NHL coach would demand accountability and to be given a roster capable of competing every night. That won't happen anyway so there is no need for Wang to go over Snow's head.

Snow's messed up a few times too many, but was pretty much guaranteed a lose-lose situation from square one. That being said, Wang is the kind of owner who would do such a thin....and DID. Isles lost Neil Smith because Wang took it upon himself to make the chain of command work through a committee and hired Ted Nolan without letting Smith bring in his own people. Wang didn't even give anyone the time to make him take their opinions into consideration then, to my knowledge.
I like the mention on Compton's Mailbag about Mike Haviland after reading up on him. It'd be nice to even out the coaching by adding THIS to the bench:
Quote:
Mike Haviland is in his fourth season as an Assistant Coach for the Blackhawks after being named to the coaching staff on July 23, 2008. A member of the 2010 Stanley Cup champion team, Haviland arrived in Chicago after spending three years as Head Coach of the organization’s American Hockey League affiliates Norfolk (2005-07) and Rockford (2007-08).
In his seven-year minor league head coaching career, Haviland never missed the playoffs, including capturing the ECHL’s Kelly Cup in 2003 with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies and in 2005 with the Trenton Titans. He posted a .600 or better winning percentage in six of his seven head coaching seasons and never finished with a winning percentage lower than .588. Haviland also earned the AHL’s 2007 Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award, given annually to the league’s top coach.
I'd MUCH rather have that on the bench than Capuano or Weight. Regardless, Wang cannot be relied upon to make a smart hockey decision - all he was good for in hindsight was writing checks, and he's even sucked at that for years.
I only see the Islanders escaping the toilet through the rejuvenation brought on by new ownership, a la Pegula - with less blind spending. For all of Snow's errors, he shouldn't be forgotten as a draft architect whenever the change comes along - I'd let him & Weight stick as heads of scouting if I had my way. Capuano seems like a nice guy, but he either needs to go or he just belongs in the background with anyone else I'd deign to keep after a regime change. It'll take a new front office team with more capital and more brains to clean the slate, and I'd rather not have any one piece added to the picture with the stench of current ownership adding a reasonable lack of trust for anyone hired.
Snow is going no where!! He will do whatever Charles Wang tells him to do because he is getting paid. You want a great paying job being a GM in the NHL while the economy is in the tank? You do what your told and you dont ask questions.
Trust me, Garth Snow is not stupid. He saw the opportunity and seized it. He knew that all he had to do was talk the talk about low salary and build from the draft and Wang loved it.
I love how this thread is just a whole bunch layered assumptions, each atop one another.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Eventually these layers become "truth" and you get people believing all sorts of crap.
If someone wants to misinterpret things they read on a hockey forum as truth without attempting to get a little better informed on something on their own through other means, it's their call. I thought we were just talking hockey.
Ya no ****. Still doesn't change the fact that the OPs post is based on pure assumptions off of assumptions off of assumptions.
Or it's based on a desire to talk about the shipwreck without the backing of studies on keels and hulls to support the discussion?
Can anyone give data on why Snow sucks? Can anyone prove Wang is not willing to put out a $60M roster? Can anyone give a medical reason why the Isles make me drink?
I think I mentioned in the OP we were going to work off of assumptions...
And, I know I'm not the only one who has the DW as next coach vibe.
It has been rumored for a while now that Doug will be the coach one day. I am ok with him as a PP coach, as the PP has improved, but head coach? NFW/GTFOH - Said to the Space Alien inside the Charles Wang suit.

Am I missing anything here? Capuano got fired? Where's the link?

You have to assume Capuano got fired. Then you have to assume Doug Weight got hired. Then you have to assume that Weight is not the right choice for the position.
