It looks sort of unlikely that both SJS and LAK make it because they play each other 3 times. Maybe if there's some 3 point games...I hope they both make it
Ah, good point. Hopefully all three games are three point games.
I like the Flames the least, but in my opinion, the more Canadian teams in the playoffs, the better.
I really don't get why Canadians want to cheer for a Canadian team. In a competition where it is country VS country, I cheer for Canada. But the playoffs, **** the NHL as a whole, doesn't work this way.
What is the point of cheering for a Canadian team? If the cup is won by a Canadian team, it isn't considered "Canada's Cup" it is "(Insert Canadian team)'s Cup"
I'd much rather see an american team, full of canadian players, win the cup than the Flames or Canucks.
Back in 04' there were a LOT of bandwagon flames fans in Edmonton. They felt Calgary struggled with the small market handicap and therefore MANY edmontonians felt it was right to cheer for Calgary during their run to the finals.
2 Years later and all calgarians unanymously cheered against the Oilers. They all uniformly LOATHED the Oilers, with many celebrating Rolosons injury.
:/ so really.... Really... Why you cheering for them?? They certainly wont return the favour :\
Calgary has always been jealous of Edmonton with its sports success relative to its own. Ala the Oilers run in the 80s', the Eskimos and even the curling teams. They have had what one Stanley champ and oh even a Grey Cup champ a few years ago.
Not everyone who lives in Calgary cheer's agains the Oiler's. We get them on sportsnet, I have watched almost all of their games for the past 3 years. . My favourite player in the league is Nuge. Though I was born in Saskatchewan so I guess my love for all things Calgary isn't as strong as most.
The only teams I enjoy watching lose in Canada are Vancouver and Toronto.

Canadian based teams give something back to all Canadians in the form of taxes. It's indirect but the connection is always there.

No EDM fan will fault a Flame fan for cheering against the Oilers. It's pretty much expected. Just like cheering against the Leafs is understood for anyone outside Ontario or cheering against the Nucks is understood by anyone who's ever watched them play.
Phx fan in peace. So with the oilers not wanting the flames in, are you guys in support of us winning in OT?
Yes.

Anyone but the Flames and Canucks. I can't stand the thought of Toronto ever winning the Cup again either, but it's such a far off, unrealistic vision that it worries me not.

Oh, boy. Same time of year, same "Let's get as many Canadian teams in the playoffs as possible" hope of some.
No... just no. Despite hating the Canucks, I was easily as happy watching the Bruins win the cup thanks to their higher proportion of Canadian players. I'll cheer like crazy for Winnipeg if they make it in, but not on account of being a Canadian city, necessarily, but more so on account of the great story they are in returning to a hockey hotbed.
In the meantime, it's as simple as ABC (Anybody But Calgary) for the remainder of the regular season.

You're right, but these individuals are likely blue-haired grannies riding out their final years offending no one. We have them in Edmonton, too.
But for the most part, let's be real: if you're a hockey fan living in either city, you revel in the seeing the squad of the other city doing poorly. True, there were some odd ball Oiler fans in '03 who'd somehow cheered for Calgary, and vice versa in '06, but they aren't the norm.

jealous, no. There is a reason that people in Calgary hate Edmonton, and vice versa, but its not jealousy.
Be careful boys, this can be some bad mojo. I remember we did the same thing for Los Angeles and their record improved drastically after this thread was made.
