WOOT! Lady Gophers NCAA CHAMPS!

First the Lynx, now the Gophers do Minnesota proud. NCAA Champs, against Bucky to boot. Stand up and cheer.

Who what?

Another championship that I care nothing about and wish I did.

Oh well.

Here are some goofy gophers:

Fun fact. In college one if my classmates was a lady gopher, she said they had a girl who was swinging for the home team on their squad but wouldnt devulge who.

Still congrats to them, there is like three good college female teams.

Also who would you take BSM state champs or lady gophers?

BSM for me, too much speed and skill. Interestingly enough prospect Nick Seeler's older sister was on the team and she was able to hang with the boys up to high school. These girls are actually pretty good and would be pretty competitive with the top high school teams.

As in, she was gay?

That's really common. My aunt played at Wisconsin(Badgers). There were plenty of girls like that. Some of the stereotypical masculine variety, some that I would have loved to hit on, if I were older when I met them.

Congrats to the lady Gophers, I guess

Minnesota...National Champions. Sounds 'bout right.

Congrats Women's Gophers! It was a fun game to watch yesterday.

I don't know, it's not too many years ago that the gold medal winning US Olympic Women's team played against the single A state champions. The boys won.

So you mean, she liked them Beavers more?

Congratulations, even though I'd be lying if I said I follow college hockey.

Also, I know a few people who are crooked, and they are some of the nicest people I've met. None of them are your stereotypical masculine-feminist-lesbians or flaming, in your face homosexuals. I'm sure those kind of people exist outside of television and movies, too, but not all of them are like that.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if a female hockey team has a higher lesbian average than, say, the cheerleading squad.

I lived in Kirkkonummi and followed HC Salamat when we had Hayley Wickenheiser in the team. I mean, we kids never knew she was famous until we actually saw her picture with the Canadian jersey on, and realized that she was good.

I was also watching her first game live. I don't remember much from it but I do remember that there was a lot more media than usual, and everyone cheered like hell when she got the assist - not so much when she scored on her own net.

I was also at the game where she got her first goal. I must say, overall she wasn't that bad at all, even if it was only 2nd division hockey. When Salamat was promoted to Mestis (1st division), she was demoted to 4th line and I must say, treated poorly by the team. It left a bitter taste in the fans' mouth when it all felt like a publicity trick instead of trying to genuinely improve the team. She had the skills to play in our 1st or 2nd line, that's for sure. I don't know if they were fearing that she'll be injured or whether there was some good old chauvinism involved but after the initial boost in interest and income died down, so did her minutes.

Either way, I got a special story from those times, too. I think it was after one of their games but might've been a practice when some of us kids were watching from the stands that Hayley gave me one of her sticks. Seriously. I still have it somewhere, I remember being initially very happy, then disappointed when I realized that it was a right-hand stick and I shoot left but in a hindsight, I'm happy I never used it. Would've most likely just broken it, anyway. It's funny when I go to my uncle's summer place, and sometimes grab a hockey stick from the storage room and nobody believes it belonged to Hayley Wickenheiser.

I haven't seen it in a while, but I'm sure it's still there, that blue Mission.

So the shots were 44-25. Did the badgers just get unlucky or what? Heck of a goalie for Minnesota. And to the kessel (Madison native) person:

Noora Raty played her ass off, especially in the final 8 minutes.

Wait, Räty is your goalie? No wonder you won. She's our #1 female goalie at the moment.

Yep. Finns are taking over on all levels of Minnesota hockey across both genders.

It's no surprise Finns like Minnesota. You're like the closest thing to mainland Finland outside of... Finland. Really.

Congrats to the Women's Gophers! They won't get the media attention they deserve, but good on them for beating a Wisconsin team that's been extremely dominant in the last few years.

It's also funny how Minnesota is considered "Land of 10,000 lakes" and Finland is "The Land of Thousand(s) (of) Lakes".

Neste Rally Finland used to be Thousand Lakes Rally or 1000 Lakes Rally, depending on the writer, but interestingly the Finnish name "Tuhansien Järvien Ralli" was a plural.
