Losing when they have potential playoff pressure and winning once they are eliminated is their MO every year since the lockout

What some Habs fans were saying last October/November about the Leafs:

Quote:
Leafs have a strong D core and they added some pretty good assets up front.. I think they are for real this time.. Winning against Columbus is possibly the easiest thing to do on earth but they showed alot of good things so far this year, their transition is something to see..
Quote:
i hate the leafs as much as the next guy, but no one can deny how burke has transformed that team, and right now, theyre playing like it

i think they are a playoff team.
Quote:
The Leafs are about a 1st line center away of being a damn good team imho. They have the complete package now, their defense is extraordinary good, they have depth up front, tons of toughness, Kessel and Lupul are playing like robots this season, Reimer and Gustavsson are good this season, etc.
Fans jumping the gun...

Mind you, there were lots others who said Leafs' "car of awesome" (that was an expression from someone here) would crash just like previous years.

Zach Parise's situation

I found a clip from a pierre mcguire interview today and he talked about parise's situation, saying there was no chance he was going to toronto and that the the amount of teams he would consider going to if he goes UFA would only be about 2 or 3. He also said past relationships played a part. Brian Gionta perhaps? keep in mind Parise also said that montreal was his favourite place to play.

http://autopod.ca/chum/22/podcasts/

it's about a minute or 2 in

Given the state of our beloved franchise this is a long shot.

Still worth a shot.

He is in his prime and is a legit 1st liner. I would try and do something similar to Ehrhoff, lots of moey up front to lower the cap hit.

Well there's 3 things in our favor.

- We're the Montreal Canadiens, not the Phoenix Coyote
- We have a good core of friendly american players with Gionta, Pacioretty and Cole
- We have cap space

Plus 4 of the past 5 years we made the playoffs, one time winning 2 rounds and the other winning one round.

Of course it is, getting Parise is a no brainer if he wants to play in MTL.

We're the Montreal Canadiens, but sadly I don't think that carries as much weight as it did in years past.

We have a lot of Yanks on our roster, but so do the Devils, Rangers, Preds (Suter and he are great friends, if not best friends), Avs (Staz and Parise are close and Parise and Mueller are good friends since they played together ever since they were kids), Wild is his hometown team and all of the teams mentioned have a lot of cap space as well.

I don't see any small maket teams investing 50 mil in a UFA, especially not the Avs or Preds. New Jersey is borderline bankrupt I think their payroll will drop next year, I don't see him there.

I'm sure some of the big markets are interested but some are in a cap crunch already(Pittsburgh Phillie NYR LA).

I see Detroit as a strong possibility, maybe Lidstrom retires and they go after both Suter and Parise.

Avs have the 2nd richest owner in the NHL who showed time and time again that he's willing to spend a lot of money on the Avs and their GM said that he has a permission to spend up to the cap, money isn't the question in Denver.

Maybe Parise and Suter can become Habs next season.

Currently 28th in the NHL. Farm club in tatters. Few prospects. Coaching situation uncertain. GM situation uncertain. Public player mistreatment and team reputation lowest it's ever been.

Yeah, just the situation the season's top free agent wants to come to. Some people needs to wake up.

Yeah we've seen better times, that's why I believe getting Parise is a long shot at best.

I know they were rich, but does the situation has stayed the same?

NJ and DALLAS were rich teams, now they struggle

How was 2008-2009 any different when we landed the big fish (Cammalleri)? The context rarely matters as long there's money on the table. Like the great Kevin O'Leary said many times: "People only care if there's MONEY!''. Plus let's not kid ourselves, we're definitely not a bottom feeder...We have the right tools to move forward and be a contender in a near future, especially after we add a blue-chip prospect at the upcoming draft.
