Who is the best free agent to ever sign in Anaheim that:
- Was already a regular NHL player prior to signing.
- Stayed with the team for at least a couple of seasons.
- Didn't have a brother on the team (S. Niedermayer), didn't have a good friend on the team (Koivu) and didn't have a past in the organization (Selanne).
?
Past lockout I can think of Toni Lydman, but can't talk for prior to the lockout (didn't care how the players ended up with the team back then).
Edit: Taking a closer look, I now see that Lydman is actually the only one that even falls into the criterias above past lockout.
Seems to me all players brought in past lockout that actually lasted in Anaheim beyond one season came in trades: Moen, O'Donnell, Visnovsky, May, Thornton, Parros, Fedoruk, Beauchemin, Pronger, Blake, Marchant (waivers), Brookbank etc.

So you identified the one guy already identified and then added a guy who had a string to get him here, good job. The goal was to name free agents that came because they wanted to be in Anaheim for no other reason than to play in Anaheim AND stayed 2+ years AND were not named Lydman however.
Both the players the Kings got filled those criteria (and are both are arguably better than Lydman at his peak last year, much less this year).
Next?
EDIT - Other Kings UFA signings include Handzus, Preissing, and Matthieu Schnieder (when he didn't suck)

Lets name every FA that signed here and then give a reason why it doesn't count. I could do that for every team...

He asked a very specific question - what UFA's signed (and stuck) in Anaheim for the sole reason of wanting to come here as an UFA destination. I just named 5 in LA from the last decade. We've come up with 1 (Lydman) for Anaheim. If you don't want to participate, don't, but you don't get to move the goalposts.
Yeah I know, so did a couple of others. But those were all considered good FA's at the time they signed with the Kings.
But really, what strings are there between the upcoming top free agents and the Ducks? The only way this team is getting one of the top guys is if the Samuelis opens their wallet and Murray decides to gamble (offering a deal that no other team would be willing to match). If not, then the best I can see us do is Carlo Colaiacovo, but more likely we're ending up with Joe Corvo as Lubo's replacement should he decide to retire.

I was just giving you crap after you shot me down with Oates and Federov
Agreed though - it will be a money talks scenario.
Federov came for the highest $$, Pronger was traded here and kept his marriage intact by doing so, Teemu was a reclamation project who'd flamed out in 2 other cities and had a history here. None of that indicates a willingness for the average free agent to come here.
EDIT - What Paul said
Pronger could have gone many other places, but he wanted to come to Anaheim and win a championship. What we gave Fedorov, is exactly what you have to give for a player of that caliber in almost any market. I think this stuff about being hard to sign Free agents is off base. Winning always makes things easier, in the end it comes down to money 90% of the time, and the ducks need to stop dumpster diving and pay for some better talent
The type of mindset like this, gives this organization an excuse, instead of going all out to get "the guy" they need they make excuses, dumpster dive and we all end up pissed.
when we were good we had no trouble getting guys, it also helped having a GM that knew what he wanted, as opposed to Bozo Bob who is clueless

We had to overpay Bertuzzi and Schneider to play here right after we won the Stanley Cup. Who are all of these people that wanted to play here?

What are you talking about? Take up the challenge and name the free agent who signed without a hook (Koivu, Scotty, Selanne) or overpayment (Bertuzzi, Schneider). Other than Lydman.
Pronger didn't have a NTC with Edmonton. The only reason he wound up in Anaheim was that the Ducks gave up the best package for him.
If you think that Murray makes decisions based on what 20-30 people post on HF, well...........and besides, we are analyzing the reality of who has signed here, not espousing a "mindset".

did we overpay? at the time Schneider was still highly thought of, they were both short term deals it seems everyone thinks any time a good FA is signed, it's an overpay these days

a "hook" what is that?
Money is the "hook" in most cases
Murray makes decisions based on nothing, he throws **** on the wall and hopes it sticks.
Pronger ended up here because he WANTED to be here, he WANTED to a long term deal to stay to, but the DUCKS traded him instead

Yes, we did. Schneider was clearly on the decline. Bertuzzi had been plagued by a few seasons of inconsistency and injuries. He'd changed hands a few times at that point.

Anaheim is actually known for players taking discounts as of late. Selanne, Koivu, Beauchemin, and Marchant took discounts to stay in Anaheim. And I suspect Getzlaf and a few others will do the same as well. I would love for you to name another place where people take significant discounts to stay.
