CBC picks Ottawa-Pittsburgh game over Toronto-NYR for National feed

Some good news when Pittsburgh comes to town it will be a national game while the Leafs game will only be regional now the main reason i think there doing this is due to the Pens.

I would say thats definitely the reason, alot of Pens fans are retired Leaf fans anyway

I'm sure if Crosby never got injured and didn't just return the Leafs game would still go nation wide too.

I have noticed over the past couple years that HNIC is becoming more neutral. TSN and Sportsnet on the other hand

What a historic day this will become!

CBC picked anyone else, over the Leafs.

HNIC Preeeeesents the SIDNEY CROSBY show, who happens to play with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who happen to be playing a Canadian team, Ottawa we think?

Give Sportsnet props for having a dedicated Ottawa crew with Brown and Potvin, even when they carry a Sens-Leaf game each market has their own crew and it is a "home" broadcast.

After the game, back in the studio, that's another matter but just switch channels. I'm very happy with the actual game broadcast they do.

Heaven forbid all of Canada not witness another nationally broadcasted game on their historic march to 9th in the East

Guys, it is not simply because of Crosby, yes that's obviously the driving factor but there would have been no way they would have chosen Sid and the Pens versus an American team over the Leafs. Heck they wouldn't have even done it if it was Montreal or Edmonton. The fact the Sens are a Canadian team and in the playoff race definitely helps.

But yes, very rare occasion and something to be happy about! Lets show em what we got on national TV since the last few times we haven't exactly done that.

They'd have chosen Sid and any other Canadian team over Toronto vs ????? as well, yeah probably.

If the Leafs were worth paying attention to I'm not sure what they would have done.

This must be it. Crosby gets hurt in the game, they'll flip it to the Leafs game

I know, just highlighting the fact that Crosby is a massive rating draw. Especially now with the Leafs not in contention for the playoff, Crosby is probably a bigger ratings draw than the Leafs. Smart bet by CBC.

Good news.

I wish I could figure out how to set up my proxy while in Australia so I can stream the game off cbc.ca...

There are a lot of proxy services for this. I use hidemyass (google it) to watch US Netflix and such...

Does CBC even buy the rights to broadcast regular season games that don't involve Canadian teams? I don't think they do.

If the Leafs weren't 99.9% sure to miss the playoffs this wouldn't be the national game, nor would it be if the Sens were playing anyone other than the Sidsburgh Crosbies.
