Are you sold on Ennis being a center?

Is it 100% in your mind that he is a center from this point forward for the rest of his time here? Or do you need to see more before calling this experiment a permanent success?

Right now, I'd say so. The more he plays it, the more he looks right there. But he'll need someone who's defensively competent to ride shotgun with him (similar to how Briere had Hecht), since I don't fully trust Ennis in his own zone handling increased responsibilities.

He just needs to have some major 1-on-1 sessions with Kevyn Adams and work on those faceoffs.

Sold on Ennis being a center ....

Not 100% yet. He's looked real good. I'd like to see him cool off and see how he responds to that. Plus defensively he could always get better.

For me, if he comes out the other end of a slump at center and gets going again, plus gets better defensively I will then be 100% sold on him being a center.

I still want:
1. that bonafide #1 center in the summer OR
2. a very very good #2 center OR
3. A top center prospect from a recent prior draft

Just funny to think .... And really, what I ask: do you see it as Ennis ended up being our big center acquisition to fill the void, and Leino ended up being a high priced replacement for Ennis on the flanks. (Too bad Ennis arrived too late..)?????

17 points in his last 17 games, incidentally.

It's an interesting situation that's for sure. I think Leino can play center in a pinch for a few games due to injury, but long term permanent solution? No.
With Ennis, time will tell. I can't assume he's gonna rock for the rest of this season and all next season. I just don't feel right relying on him as the solution at top line center. Assuming CoHo is our 2nd line center.
As "hot" as he's become, I am cautiously optimistic with Ennis. The other shoe will drop and he will get ice cold. I want to see him go thru that issue, (as a center) and battle back and be the better for it. Does that make sense?

I'm sold that Ennis has broken out right now as our #1 center and doubt he will ever look back. Enjoy the ride

No doubt that XXXXX - Ennis - Stafford has been the top line for a while now.

I'm sold on Ennis being a first line offensive player, who plays with heart and confidence each and every game.

I think if Ennis is top be a center, Derek Roy needs to go. Ennis and Gerbe should be the only undersized forwards on the team, and should be surrounded with players that bring size and toughness, as well as the ability to score.

Derek Roy + whatever it takes to move into a position to draft Galchenyuk in the coming draft.

Our top 6 next year, with Galchenyuk playing another year in the OHL:

Vanek - Hodgson - Pomminville
Foligno/Leino - Ennis - Stafford

Expecting Foligno to remain a top six player is having a lot of blind faith, however his chemistry with Ennis is promising and they look better so far than Ennis / Kassian did.

He plays a good goal-line to goal-line game because of his skating. He's not going to be a shot blocker or someone who knocks people off the puck ever, so just forget about that. His role will never be a 2-way center. He's an offensive guy who's defense is a good offense. Puck possession. Why the hell would we want him to go into a slump? That's absurd. Look at what he is and accept it. As someone else put it, he's similar to Briere in that role. He creates space and makes linemates better. Of course he's a center for good. And yeah, I think he's our #1 going forward.

On a related note, Ennis has practically resuscitated Stafford's season. Staff had been playing better for the most part, but with Ennis he's legitimately putting up points.

I'm impressed and I'm sold. I can't see them moving Ennis back to wing.

I hope even if they draft an elite center at draft we've got a decent center depth.

Center depth = one step closer to be a contender

Perhaps Ville could fill this role? seems ideal for him.

I am confident enough in Ennis to say we should deal Roy this summer for an up-and-coming centre prospect (McNeill, P. Holland, Bjugstad?) and roll on with Hodgson & Ennis as our top-6 next year...

We would need to add at least one FA centreman likely, that said I would still like to see Adam get one more kick at #3C before he is shifted to wing permanently...

Vanek-Hodgson-Pominville
Leino-Ennis-Stafford
Gerbe-Adam-Foligno
McCormick-????-Tropp
X. Ellis, Chewy

Just no. I don`t break up that Foligno - Ennis - Stafford line.

I would love to get an upgrade to Roy ( Maybe Roy, Leopld and two first rounders, for Getzlaf and Ryan? ) and we could send out three scoring lines:

Vanek - Getzlaf - Pomineville
Foligno - Ennis - Stafford
Leino - Hodgson - Ryan
Boyes - Hecht - Tropp

Holy crap, that would be just epic. That would be a "win it now" roster, not a "win it in a few year" projekt.

I think Roy, our two firsts, Leopold and possibly a prospect like pysyk would be a pretty fair deal for Ryan and Getzlaf.....

Your thoughts?

I'm still thinking it'll be Ennis at 1C, CoHo at 2C, and Leino at 3C for next season, to be honest. I don't think the Sabres will acquire a center to supplant any of those 3. Am I alone in thinking Leino is doing/will do better on the 3rd line playing against weaker competition/3rd defensive pairings?

Why not hope he's the type of player that doesn't slump? Maybe hope for an upward trajectory for the kid. He has all the skill in the world, why do you want to see him regress. It seems to me that you really want to be right about your 50 point projection for him.
