I've been watching old Ovechkin highlights. That goal against the Flyers in the '08 playoffs where he stripped the guy in the offensive zone and then had Biron down and out and roofed it is so sick. His reaction afterwards, just...****.
Second loudest I've ever heard VC, behind the noise after Feds' game 7 winner.

I think this is his most ridiculous playoff moment.

I mean, come on.
Watched that one a bunch of times too. Absolutely love it...he just flat-out humiliates those guys. Edit: I also always loved Fedorov's man-handling of Zherdev at the blueline to get the play started.
I was thinking about this while watching that and that regular-season goal against the Canadiens where he banked the puck off the boards and spun around: It's funny how you just know the puck is going in the net in those situations. In both of them, he ends up shooting from the ground or as he's diving, and the goalie is right there. They could easily be stopped, but when I saw him break those guys' ankles against the Rangers, I just absolutely knew the puck was about to go in the net no matter what happened. Insane moments.
I will put money on it, that if we play the Rangers, we will win.
I agree too. IF we make the playoffs we will beat whoever we play in the 1st round.
Not only is Ovechkin scoring but he is scoring the lethal goals we've seen him do in the past. He's skating better and getting far more chances than in the last year+

The biggest difference I see is that he isn't flubbing so often. I don't think his chances went way down, just that he flubbed, whiffed, lost, etc. so many of them. He's back to connecting on one timers and his wrist shot like he did two years ago.
Bank on this....NOBODY wants to play us as the 8. That's in our favor bigtime.
Underdog status + minimal expectations = dangerous

6 - Number of playoff series the Capitals have won since George McPhee took over as General Manager in 1997 (which makes him the third-longest-tenured GM in the League), three of which came in McPhee's first season on the job.
We are a .500 hockey team. Not sure what makes us dangerous. Ovi is dangerous, but this team? Nah. Nicky comes back and we get some consistent goaltending... maybe.
Something thats impressive about Ovechkins return to glory is its still with Dale Hunter putting out idiotic defense man.
We can say all we want about Wideman, but hes good at making the passes to start offense, the other guys just pass the puck to the other teams defense man at the red line.
PS Capitals are way physical with the Penguins, they should pray for it because Hunter is an idiot doesn't know Malkin has temper tantrums when you are rough with him, so the Caps would be a good way to get him going for the playoffs.
Is there any chance Backstrom will be back for playoffs?
Sounds like he's cleared to play now, just a matter of getting him in to game shape. As long as there's still a chance they make it I have to believe they'll get him in to a game (or more) before the season is done.
