Draft one, no one is giving up the assets we want because that's what everyone else needs!

The draft. Suter has stated he won't sign with any Canadian team.

Draft one....there are a few in this years draft....

Ryan Murray and Morgan Rielly and Mathew Dumba are highly skilled D man. Morgan Rielly may be the better of the group as he has the ability to control a game. Then there are a couple of other good D- man in the draft.

Slater Koekkoek,Cody Ceci, Griffin Reinhart this is a very deep D man draft.

Maybe we should stop playing the ones we have. Start there.

I just feel so bad for guys like Holzer, who probobally telling him, not only I am getting not paid like Komiserak, who happens to be the worse D in the team, I am not playing because of him.

Ouch.

draft dumba.

-amazing skater
-dynamic offensive ability
-competitive + a leader
-aggressive
-good IQ

Cons
-not a big man
-a gambler

I dont know, if we miss out on grigorenko, I would definitely take this guy. He isnt large, but if he is serious (scouting reports say he is), then he will fill out. As for his gambler mentality, that can be corrected.

Or the Leafs can start a bounty fund and injure as many top defencemen as possible until ours are considered tops in the league. It would certainly be entertaining.

Suter... lol

We'd need to lay down $8M to start and even I'm not sure that would get the job done.

Fire Burke and offer Suter a long term deal like every GM other than Burke would do?

But seriously, sign Suter to whatever he wants.

Dougie Hamilton is the best Major Junior Defenseman...

Does he fit the bill?

This is a joke right?

Let's just see if Boston would be kindly willing to send one of their brightest defensive prospects to us, ignoring the fact that we have zero pieces that they would want in return?

1 - You draft one.

Or

2 - You trade for one.

Considering the Leafs have pressing concerns at the goalie and center position, and there is NO help coming via free agency, you keep your young assets and you trade for those pieces in the summer.

It's what makes the Aulie trade so much more baffling - why give away a young, marketable asset for another, when you could hold onto him and try and package him in for something of greater value?

Suter needs to learn a lesson in Leverage 101: How to make people pony up the cash you want.

If this were true, he will likely be lowering his negotiation power in the market by effectively refusing to sign/listen to contract talks from the biggest spenders in the game and by limiting his options from 30 teams to 23.

Well done Suter, your agent must be pleased.

Do American teams not have money!!?!?!?!

Let's re-discuss this issue in July, when Suter is toasting his agent for getting him top free agent dollar, and your zero days of NHL player agent experience comes back to bite you in the ass.

By refusing to play in Canada, a player reduces his negotiating power and potential to land a lucrative contract by something close to 0%.

Source - see Brad Richards.

I'm not saying that they don't have money but effectively reducing your potential suitors by roughly 23% is never a good outcome.

Brad Richards was in a very different scenario, one which saw the Toronto Maple Leafs loft the largest offer to him. Richards, however, had different goals in that he wanted a retirement contract and an NMC and Burke wouldn't budge on the length of the contract.

Compare the contract he got in New York, to the one that the Calgary Flames were offering him. Then come and tell me that they are very different scenarios.

Like I said, you don't know what you are talking about, in July Suter will get his money, at which point you will still have no idea what you are talking about, and then we will discuss how reducing his options by 23% "never resulted in a good outcome".
