Solid move. Now please don't make any promises to Poulin or Nilsson next September.

perfect. One year is a perfect stop gap and allow Nilsson and Poulin to develop correctly.

Wonder what the figures are, I'm gonna guess 2.5-3 Mil with a clause allowing him to pick teams he can be traded to

Very good news, and it sends a big message to the rest of the league that his perception of the team has changed this much.

His play has regressed since the deadline, but I am happy with this nonetheless. Stability in goal is important, and a 1-year deal is nice. Hopefully, one of Poulin and Nilsson (or both) will prove to be ready in 2013-14.

I would say there's finally stability in net...however Rick is still around probably thinking next year is the year he finally puts it all together.

The best thing that could happen right now is for him to take a bulk of the starts next season all the while mentoring either Poulin or Nilsson. Montoya is not re-signed, and Rick is "somehow" out of the picture...officially.

My gut tells me that they'll approach next season as Nabby 1A, Rick 1B...and let Poulin and Nilsson get another season in Bridgeport...but I hope that's not the case.

I really don't think a 1 year lame duck contract will change the perception of the Islanders by Free Agents. Not to be a downer, I'm happy he's signing too, but he's been pretty much abysmal since the trade deadline.

According to MacKenzie, $2.75M, no no-trade or no-move.

Very solid deal for the Isles

Him signing is a HUGE coup for us just cause it shows someone WANTS to play in LI. That and we have a clear cut #1 goalie going into next year.

Awesome news

Evgeny Nabokov's new one-year deal with the NYI is $2.75M. The deal does NOT include a No Move or No Trade clause.
Nice term.

I don't want to see Poulin or Nilsson up next year; I think they're both still at least one year out. Re-sign Montoya, dump DiPietro, play for a year with Nabokov-Montoya and then bring up Poulin or Nilsson to play.

And hopefully our goalies will stay healthy but as they are Islander goalies and I think Kelly Hrudey bought an Islander goalie voodoo doll the day he was traded and still sticks pins in it occasionally, I doubt it.

This is good to hear. Next year will definitely start out with Nabby and DP as 1A and 1B until Rick inevitably gets hurt and then either Poulin or Nilsson get promoted.

I wonder if Koskinen comes back over from Europe?

Hmmm....no mention of bonus money. Either Bob Mac missed it (possible), the Isles intend to increase payroll to the point where they will no longer circumvent the floor (doubtful) or the team is convinced that the new CBA will change how bonuses are factored.

My goodness, color me extremely surprised!

And no problem with the money...

Does this mean Montoya will walk?

Will the team re-up Koskinen (I think they technically have the option to do so with his ELC coming to a conclusion)?

Looks to me like Nilsson and Poulin will be battling things out for back-up duty on the Island next fall.
