I don't want to see Poulin or Nilsson up next year; I think they're both still at least one year out. Re-sign Montoya, dump DiPietro, play for a year with Nabokov-Montoya and then bring up Poulin or Nilsson to play.
And hopefully our goalies will stay healthy but as they are Islander goalies and I think Kelly Hrudey bought an Islander goalie voodoo doll the day he was traded and still sticks pins in it occasionally, I doubt it.
The isles look thin skinned, unable to take Botta's criticism and at times, Botta's bitterness slips through.
yeah, I mean don't get me wrong what the Isles did was terrible, but as a professional you act like such and move past it...and also with this team there are PLENTY of times that negativity is well deserved, but this signing is clearly not one of those situations.
My guess is the Islanders will try trade one of the 3 goalies. If they try trade one of them as part of a bigger package for a top line player it will be one of the other 2 guys, if they can't trade either that way my guess Mikko gets traded for a 5th rounder.
You forgot to add
.....once DP gets injured
What do ya think... Are DP's odds of getting hurt next year 99.9% or 100%? It's hard to tell.
Resigning Montoya would give us four possible starting goalies next season (DiPietro, Nabokov, Montoya, Poulin). With DiPietro being the most injury prone human to ever play a National Sport, you can count him out. So I think we will role with a three goalie rotation next year (Nabokov, Montoya, Poulin all in the NHL) and let our other goalie prospects mature in the A.
Ok this is a decent development. Until the deadline, I would have thought Nabokov signing would have been pretty much nil, but things are always in flux, as they say. Who's they, you say? Them. Over there...
Next up, address the defense. I don't know how, but there needs to be serious upgrades.
Of course, when you've been shut out as many times as this team this season, offense is also a priority. Lots of holes to fill here.
But goaltending would seem to be the team strength right now, in terms of depth.
