I am not surprised he resigned, but I am surprised it's only for 1 year. I figured the only way he resigns with the Islanders if he gets a 3 year deal

Love it. DiPietro's off the books whenever the amnesty clause kicks in, Nabby holds down the fort next year and the Islanders reevaluate where they are with Poulin/Nilsson next offseason. I think Nabby has completely changed his mind about the Islanders organization and our fans have completely changed our minds about him .

Assuming there is an amnesty clause

It's also possible whatever amnesty clause there is might be a cap only one, in which case a buyout would still require a large sum all at once...

Anyway, he's played pretty well this year. Nice deal for NYI.

And he did it before going UFA. Another example of a player wanting to stay once he's here.... or at the very least not screaming at his agent to get him the hell out.

Also, you've got to think that he wouldn't have signed without ensurance that he would be starting over DiPietro..... which is double a good sign.

Why would/should the Islanders buy out DiPietro? Amnesty or no.... they can bury him in the minors until he retires due to injury.

Nabokov reminds me of "Green eggs and Ham"

'I won't like it, I couldn't like it,no i won't like it'

...then he found out he really did like it. 1 year is because he probably doesn't really expect the Isles to become cup contenders and he's not getting any younger.

Good news for the Islanders, they get a guy who wanted nothing to do with them, now to a guy who wants to stick around.

Given the Islanders track record if they bought out Dipietro, they would want that cap hit going against there cap, not off the books.

Nice to see that happening, especially after he sat out on them.

I beleive the Isles are no longer the laughing stock of the NHL... So long Mike Milburry

If that's the case, they could completely rid themselves of his salary and continue to give out unobtainable bonuses to pick up the slack.

guarantees an NHL spot for him. so many decent Gs between the NHL and AHL.

you can be playing russian roulette if you're an older G hitting the FA market.

Great news for the Islanders! Now we have a #1 goalie for next season until Nilsson and Poulin are ready and no need for more "goalies to NYI" proposals in here

This is why the Isles need to get guys in to play a little bit. Once they are on Long Island, most of them don't want to leave. Parenteau...cast your die....

True enough.
But there are quite a few teams (ie: lightning) that would have taken him over anything else they have

Nabokov clarified a little earlier this season about not reporting to the Isles. He said that the reason he chose not to play for the Islanders last year is he felt like he was not in shape to play as a #1. The reason he signed with the Wings is they had Howard who would be handling most of the games while Nabokov could spend the better part of a month or two getting himself back into shape with the Wings and be their backup. He says refused to report to the Islanders because he felt he wasn't in the proper shape to be a #1 goalie trying for a playoff push.

Now, whether or not you believe this, or it's just lip service from Nabokov is another matter entirely.

Best Islanders goaltender in a while. Good deal for both sides, imo, as long as he doesn't age incredibly fast, like Roloson did.

Love this!!

Also have to love all the haters!

JT won't resign once his three years are up.

Grabner won't resign on the island.

Nabokov doesn't wanna play for the Isles there's no way he will resign.

Once players actually come to Long Island they love it here. One of the nicer areas in the country good weather 30 min from Manhattan. The problem we have is getting people to come here in the first place lol.

I dig this signing. Nabokov has played very well for the Isles. He's a good stopgap while the Islanders develop Poulin and Nilsson or acquire a younger starting goaltender. Nabby obviously wasn't so keen on being nabbed ( ) by the Isles last season, but that might have had a lot to do with the fact that he wanted to be a part of a Cup run rather than the fact that is was the Islanders that claimed him. Either way, he seems to enjoy being a part of the growing team in Long Island.

WOW 2.750M

with a couple of decent DMan signing this summer I could see this team battling for a playoff push. Nice Job Snow. Now time's for PAP to re-sign

Moulson ,Tavares and Okposo have all commented on how well Wang treats his players.

Also,as someone pointed out, players get to LI and find out it is a beautiful place to live.

I'm ecstatic over this deal. He has been the best goalie on LI since Chris Osgood. This gives Poulin and Nilsson more time to develop and Nabby could be moved at next year's deadline to get his Cup chance if needed.

I have to give Snow some credit here, a very team friendly signing.
