OT: Media in the City

Is anyone else seeing how the Toronto hockey media, especially when it pertains to our Maple Leafs have become too aggressive? They try their hardest to influence the state of club. Get people fired.

Now to some, this can be explained by sensationalism to sell newspapers or generate website views. But in the last five years especially they've become really bold and in my opinion overstepped their boundaries.

What happened to just reporting the news?

And do you think there's an over-saturation of the market. Rogers and Bell are about to take ownership of the team, I doubt it's going to change.

I'm sure this goes on with the Lakers, Yankees, Red Sox, New England Pats and Manchester United, too. Actually, that last one is probably the worst give the British tabloid press. The National Enquirer tends to stay away from team sports and only with a big Tiger Woods sex scandal do they pounce on jocks.

They're a bunch of losers who can't skate themselves, so don't get so offended. The Leafs sure don't.

The media are parasites who dwell on innuendo and negativity in order to get a negative reaction from the athlete being attacked. When they get that reaction, they start again. For the most part their questions are finger pointing BS with no 'correct' answer.

Some players are able to ignore them like flies at a picnic, but others are not. Some players are sensitive people. Some are shy and value privacy. Some are arrogant and don't like to be questioned. Some are ...........

Blaming the players for their individual personalities, and cutting slack for the parasites is damaging to the team as a whole. Saying that the players have signed up for this, and it is their responsibility to put up with it because they have a high salary is equally digressive. The players signed up to play hockey. The parasites are not their fault....just their problem.

Burke clearly can't stand the majority of them. Wilson would have liked to see them banned from the dressing room. The rehearsed non answers that players give suggest that the majority of them would rather not be interviewed at all.

The parasites have damaged athletes at the top of their sports for their own ego. Tiger Woods and Tim Thomas were ambushed for cheating on a wife and not being a democrat. I wonder how many of the parasites are republicans who have had an affair. I also wonder what any of it has to do with sports.

It is obvious that there are an inordinate number of these turds in Toronto and Montreal. There have been many instances where they have made personal attacks on players who simply wanted to play hockey and be normal people. It is also a fact that the Habs and Leafs are unable to sign many UFA's because they simply don't want flies at their picnic and they have a choice to go elsewhere.

Blame the players if it makes you feel better, but the media is ruining our chances of building, and maintaining a good team in Toronto. Ontario is the best source for hockey talent and the Leafs have the deepest pockets, yet no one seems to come here voluntarily.

Go figure.
