Who should win the 7th player award?

This tuesday, at home against the Pens, I think is when they said the award will be presented.

I think the winner this year is pretty obvious myself. Mr. Chris Kelly has had a fabulous season. Performing rock solid in each end, producing regardless of the flux of ever changing linemates he's rolled out there with

In the spirit of the award, I don't think someone like Seguin is a good candidate. He has had a break out season, but he's a recent #2 overall draft pick, and this was expected of him.

Expectations were also made and realized of last years winner, Brad Marchand. You could also say that players like Chara, Bergeron, Krejci, Lucic and Seidenberg are doing what's expected as well

Perhaps someone like Jordan Caron or Benoit Pouliot deserve consideration. Greg Campbell too. He's played well and answered the bell for his teammates MANY a time this year. A lot times against someone he knows is more than his match. But for me it's clearly gotta be Kelly

Who do you think deserves the award?

Seconded. Kelly is one of those guys that makes the B's such a hard team to match up against, brings so much added energy and scoring depth.

Viva La Cage!

Tough call this year.

I think if we had Zanon the whole year, he might have done it

Kelly has a good case

I'm not completely sure, but he certainly wouldn't be a bad choice. Have to mull that over some more....

It's either going to be Kelly or Seguin, I have no doubt about it.

And since fans vote on it, my guess is Seguin will win. With that said, Seguin does actually deserve it despite probably winning it because all the chicks love him. Really impressive follow-up year.

For me personally, Kelly edges out Seguin barely. And they are well ahead of anyone else on the team. At least in my opinion.

Kelly was my choice, although I seriously considered Johnny Boychuk-Boychuk mostly because he was a bit of the whipping boy during the playoffs last year, but I think he has pulled his game together and has turned into a pretty solid top 4 defenseman.

Kelly though has had a record scoring and points year and has played all up and down the line-up, had a few fights, and generally has been a team leader. He is the one pending UFA I think Chia needs to fight hard to keep, but the one I think may be most likely to go somewhere else in the open market.

Wow, I thought Kelly would give way to more popular players so I picked him to make a case for...

... and so did everyone else. Heh.

So much for "he's a 4th liner!"

Kelly will be well served by turning it on a bit down the stretch here. Helps to make that streak where he (and pretty much everyone) was invisible nothing but a distant memory.

For me, it's Kelly and it's not even close. There hasn't been anyone else this year that has truly surprised me.

Don't forget "he's an offensive black hole"

My head says Chris Kelly but my heart says Shawn Thornton, and I am going with my heart on this one.

I agree with that. While Seguin went from rookie who was scratched every other game playing 5min a night to All-Star and leading the team in points in +/- (at least at one point being the clear cut leader in those).. his skillset and talent made it hard for us (at least for me) to be truly surprised by it. In a year or two when he gets more consistent and truly is used to the NHL game, he is going to be a force but that's a different thread.

I don't think ANYONE expected Kelly to go on his tear earlier in the season and to score 20 goals.. I know the award isn't about who surprises you the most but still, that impresses me. He really reminds me of Bergeron and is perfect for centering that 3rd line

Really? That's an interesting choice. Can I ask why? I love Shawn Thornton, but he hasn't done much that I don't expect from him. Thornton's a perennial candidate because of his role, but I don't think he did enough to be a serious candidate this year.

If it wasn't for Marchand's breakout last year, I think last year was Thornton's for the taking.

What's your rationale?

Kelly/Bergy or Segs, totally on the fence here but the edge goes to CK, who, out of this bunch is the player with the least amount of skill (and that isn`t meant to be disrespectful) but a guy who absolutely maximizes what he has and will do anything to win a game for this team.

To be fair that was pointed out last year when he wasn't anywhere near where he is now in terms of producing. Even some Bruins insiders called Kelly that when asked if Seguin should be paired up with him. Which makes it all the sweeter that he completely owned all of us (me included) the following season.

Seguin will probably win because it's a voted award, but come on... Who expected Kelly to net 20? He should win.

Agreed. If Thornton was going to win it it would have been last year. That whole 4th line was fantastic and Thornton was almost scoring regularly. Didn't he have almost 15 goals? (I honestly can't remember)

Anyway, like you said he would have been a shoe-in if not for Marchand's breakout season. This year is more of what I expect from Thornton.. fights, leadership and physicality without being a pylon like other team's "goons". Thornton is way more than that which is why I'm glad Chia signed him again

Rock the Cor-vote!

April Fools.

But for reals, should be Kelly. Boychuk HM. And the winner should receive this or another shirt of their choice:

No one has really exceeded by expectations by far. Certainly not Seguin. I mean, he's not really even outscoring Marchand for goodness' sake. It has to be Kelly, due to his offensive production and very impressive +/- for a 3rd line guy.

I don't how anyone could argue that Seguin exceeded expectations. I voted for Kelly and hope to see him re-signed.

Wow, as of my vote, Kelly has 2/3 of the votes ... glad to see that. He's the one that most fits the player that this award was intended to be rewarded to, IMHO. I know that 'stars' have won it in the past (Neely being the most obvious example) but in a year when someone like Kelly so greatly exceeds expectations, it'd be unfortunate for a grinder-type to lose out to someone like Seguin*.

*No offense meant to Seguin, obviously, it's just that I have a hard time saying that a #2 overall pick playing like a 2nd overall pick is "exceeding expectations".
