Alex Kovalev NHL return?
According to what Renaud Lavoie said on RDS, Alex Kovalev wants to return to the NHL next year. Knowing he wants to be here and loves Montreal, would you give him an invite to next year's camp?

I'd consider giving him a training camp invite, really no harm... if he comes into camp motivated and in good shape he could help our PP for cheap and play third line at even strength. If he sucks then let him go back to Russia.

How has he fared in the KHL?
edit: I'm with PK. Nothing wrong inviting over the training camp. That would give quite a boon to Plek, and I am sure an old wolf like him could get along with Roy as a coach. Kovalev/Radulov would be great additions to our team.

I'll go on record saying this; sign him.
Stick him on 3rd-4th line duties and give him the right half board on the PP.
Plus he would give us a great option in the shootout.
I'm in.

Something like 22 GP 6 pts if I remember what Lavoie said correctly.
p.s. Big no from me. Keep him away from our kids.

Well, at least he'd probably outscore Gomez!

Well, you're right, it does no harm, but he won't make the team so lets avoid the circus.

He's probably better than other options if we're talking league minimum salary.

I guess, as a PP specialist he's good with markov but we turned the page, why go back just for 25 points a season player(which he would be if on bottom 6).

Because, as inconsistent as a player he can be, when he's on his game he can really make a difference between victory and defeat. Plus, if we DO have Roy over, we'll need to distribute the circus around

I thought he signed a two years contract in the KHL?
And that that was the reason he didnt stay in the NHL, because no team offered him a 2 yrs contract...

he was awful for Ottawa and Pittsburgh, did nothing in the KHL and would bring the circus to town even on a training camp invite
Add his last season in Montreal and we are talking 4 poor years in a row
WHY? Why even think about this?

Yes. But he should not expect a guaranteed contract. And it depends on how much we sign him for if we want him back.
Though, if we don't sign him, it's probably gona piss off a lot of Kovalev fans. Again.
