Yes! Free beer for me

This will be fun, can't wait. But I'll probably need a reminder or something the week before just in case. I'll try and remember but if this thread gets buried, someone needs to dig it up the week before to remind everybody.

So Saturday, May 12th at 12:30 works for everyone?

I'll just bring my whole gear bag and dress to the level everyone else dresses to.

I think that's enough to kind of get us started. Anyone else who wants to come and we can just drop the price as the group expands.

So at this stage, let's say we did this...

Saturday, May 12th
12:30PM - 1:45PM
Burnaby 8 Rinks
Burnaby, BC
$223.75 + Taxes = Approx. $250.60 / 18 People = $13.92 (round up to $14.00)

(Link to Prices and Times: http://icesports.com/burnaby8rinks/ice-rental.aspx)
Cheaper with each person who commits.

Hopefully we can make this a somewhat regular thing every few months so different people can make it out to each one.

I'd tell everyone its 12 to 1:45 so we can start right away when the zamboni guy finishes cleaning the ice.

I guess there will be a huge variety in skill level playing. I played rep growing up. Stopped at 18. Played Platinum, Gold and Silver roller hockey from 23 to currently at 39 (last year was my last Platinum season though). I got back to playing coed 2 years ago and have spared as high as div 6 at 8 rinks.
Dear god. I haven't played any kind of competitive ice hockey. Gotta shape up.

Ha, I'm hoping no one decides to dazzle with their NHL caliber level skills. This beer league hockey player would have trouble keeping up.

And yeah, if we get the ice at 12:30, I'm thinking we should show up around 12ish. For games I always allow myself at least a half hour to get my gear on.

I don't skate very fast...or very well.

I'm probable if I can make it or not, but I'll let you know at least 3-4 days in advance. I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you guys.

Yeah, it's always neat to put names to faces.

I remember at the tiny CDC skate I went to, one of the four people who showed up was one of the most abrasive and argumentative guys on the board. He and I had actually frequently butted heads. He ended up being this tiny, meek little guy who barely uttered a peep all night. He ended up being quite friendly and nice, just a bad case of "keyboard toughness".

To whomever is organizing/calculating costs, I just want to say that I'm out for ice. Again, I don't have the equipment ( or skills, for that matter ) for ice.

So factor that in to your calculations.

I'm always happy to play ball hockey. In fact, if anyone here needs a drop in anywhere from Burnaby to Pitt Meadows let me know. I'm a competent player.

HAHA. I can certainly get like that at times and I'm pretty small myself. Something about the internet turns me into an aggressor at times, but I'm actually fairly shy.

I'm not as bad a person as my personality suggests on this site at times. Hockey brings out the best and worst in me.

Me and my buddies do our own ball hockey usually every weekend in Port Coquitlam. PM me anytime you are interested in the Lower Mainland, we need some good foot soldiers at times.

Haha TBH I always imagine everyone on HF as the quiet types IRL.

I suppose I fit that mold... and that way you won't hear me coming.

I'll be living in Poco this summer so I'm extremely interested. Where do you play?

Edit: maybe send a PM

Hell, I'm game for both. I've never rented an arena for ball hockey or anything...if you'd like to organize one, I'm game when I'm down there.

I'd like to reiterate that in Poco me and my buddies could always use some more players, however I can't pull off something high-scale such as renting out an arena, but of course I'm down for both. I'm better on foot anyhow.

If anyone is ever in Poco, hit me up that's all I'm saying.

if its only around 20 of us for ball hockey, community centers are the way to go. rental is only 50 per hour and you could book 2 to 3 hours no problem.

edit: but lets stick with ice hockey if possible

I wouldn't worry about me. I'm not a star player at all at the top level I played. More of a complimentary team guy, but the highest level of roller hockey I played is the best in the Lower Mainland. Lots of div 1 8 rinks players, junior level and even a few NHL talents. David Jones from the Colorado Avalanche was an opponent for 3 seasons when he was younger and Ben Maxwell from the Winnipeg Jets has played the past 2 summers.

How about we set up the ice game for May 12, and then on a weekend in July or August we set up a road hockey or outdoor roller hockey game/tournament and a BBQ? That way we satisfy everyone.

I'm seriously pumped for this! Also will bring my full gear and dress appropriately :p...Honestly, as long as we have 2 goalies, I'm fine with there being only 10 skaters haha...play some 4 or 4 or something. Seriously, so pumped!

Exactly. My concern if we have too many players is the lack of ice time for everyone. There are ways around it though, but since it's just for fun I think 2 goalies + 12 skaters total (so 14 people) would be a good minimum. That's 1-2 subs per team depending on 5 on 5 or 4 on 4.

I don't think I have any schedule conflicts with that time, so it should work for me. If something does come up I'll give advance notice to cross me off the list.

Personally I hope we get a decent turn out though, I'm a complete anaerobic type so much prefer a hard 1 minute shift followed by a 2 minute break on the bench. Shinny style 5 minutes shifts don't really agree with me, especially when I don't have the skill to float around so I always need to be hustling
